2015 New Year Resolutions

January 21, 2015 by Mellie Dee 1 Comment

San Antonio. Austin. Dallas. Cancun. Hong Kong. Thailand. Big or small, this just might be the year of travels. I just have to factor in travel expenses and vacation days before it’s a yes to everything.

Bridesmaid for two of the five weddings means more expenses – dresses, bachelorette and bridal parties, gifts, etc. Luckily two of the five weddings are right here in Houston. The one in Cancun is still up in the air on whether or not I go but gosh do I want to go. To see my friends get married and just look at that gorgeous blues!

And because there is so much going on, I have to remind myself to stay on track so here are 2015 New Year Resolutions.

Blog more. Almost all the blogs I use to follow stopped blogging. They’re too busy living life – being married, being a mother; understandable. It got me unmotivated to blog because I started losing my friends – people I have never met. But I just have to remember to blog for myself.

Focus on health and fitness. I stopped when I got into that car accident back in March. Although my collar/shoulder isn’t fully 100% healed, I just have to slowly rebuild the muscles around those parts. Slow and steady wins the race! Above is one of my favorite eats. Plate of greens with grilled chicken and pesto pasta. YUM!

Do what I love. Sometimes I forget to just have fun or to just wind down. I am the type of person that always has to have something going on and when plans don’t follow through I freak out. I made a last second decision to go to a Rockets game with Zuco this Monday and it was one of the best times ever. Spontaneous. No planning. Perfection.

Thing Good Thoughts.

Til next time,

13th weekend: San Antonio Trip to mainly see Jenny and Travis. It brought me back to our college years. I didn’t want the weekend to end to where it made me start thinking about moving back to San Antonio.

12th – 15th: Tammy’s Pre Bachelorette Party in Vegas.

27th: Bayto’s 21st birthday celebration. When he drinks, he is so out of his bubble … and I love it!

So what’s to come in 2015? Too much. Lots of wedding festivities and a possible trip back to my homeland.

Cannot wait to see what 2015 has in store for us. Maybe more blogging? ……

As of Saturday, August 23rd, my brother is engaged!!
I believe they are thinking of tying the knot next year so it’s going to be crazy!
Can’t wait to gain another sister.

I donated to ALSA.org after watching Anthony Carbajal’s short informational video.
Then was nominated by my cousin, Vincent, in Hong Kong.
People have been saying the Ice Bucket Challenge is dumb.
In my opinion, any publicity is good publicity.

Houston Restaurant Week.
Perry’s Steakhouse with Mum.
The Capital Grill with Apurva. Her first Houston Restaurant Week!
I love Perry’s and totally understand the love for it.
Capital Grill was great but I’ve had better.

Samantha’s Birthday celebration on the 29th.
We went painting at Pinot’s Palette and an adventure afterward.
Then I met up with Mallory and Samantha the next morning for breakfast.
I need to paint more. I miss it. Even if I suck.

Hello, Goodbye, and Farewell

August 17, 2014 by Mellie Dee 1 Comment

There’s been some changes in my life and thankfully most of them are ones I love. But it would be nice if someone can motivate me so I can get back into running. That’s one change I would love! My running schedule should have started this week but lately I’ll come home and all I want to do is crash. I’m becoming an old lady. YIKES! Help me!

Last weekend (August 9th-10th), Liliana and Patricia drove from San Antonio to visit me. We got Korean food for dinner upon their arrival. Then I took them to Cloud 10 Creamery. It’s been very famous in Houston lately so I figure it was a great chance to check it out. I need to do review on it over at Yelp! but overall … expensive and delicious.

We spent the rest of the night just hanging out at the hotel and ordering a bottle of Moscato. Being silly and myself with them was just what I needed. Don’t freak out about the first picture; those are candy cigarettes in our mouths!

The next day we got free breakfast/brunch from the hotel and then I took them to various art museums and even stopped by at the famous Biscuit Paint Wall. I had a lot of fun with them and I hope they feel the same. In the bottom left hand picture you can see some photos. That one with the fire … one of my favorite pieces there. The other one is blocked by Liliana. Gah … I. Love. Art.

Friday night, August 15th, we bid farewell to BossMan. The whole team surprised him at the restaurant for dinner when he thought it was just going to be two teammates with him. He was very, very surprised so all went well. We got him a Diesel Watch, Starbucks Gift Card, Whiskey Scotch, and a picture frame of the whole team and a farewell message of how much we love him.

I wonder if Mum could tell I was a little tipsy upon arriving home …

2 Year Anniversary & Secret Bloggers Club: I Like To Brag

August 6, 2014 by Mellie Dee 8 Comments

I am marking my 2 years at my big girl job … TODAY! … Maybe one day these anniversary posts are actually about a boy. HA

You can read about my One Year Anniversary here. Not much has changed other than EVERYONE is in cubicles. I’ve learned a lot through my coworkers but I haven’t even scratched the surface. But some things I’ve learned that everyone seem to have known all through life is to:

  • Open up and socialize. You see these people more than you see your own family so friendships are bound to happen … if you let it.

I use to be so focused on getting my work done just to ask for more work. I am social by nature. I love getting to know people, not because I’m nosy, but because I genuinely care so I always ask a lot of questions about themselves. And for some reason, people ask for my advice. People I haven’t talked to in a while. Most tend to want boyfriend/girlfriend advice. Um … I’m single. I don’t know if I’m quiet the person to ask … but okay. I on the other hand try to keep things about myself to myself. But a year into the job, BossMan told me that I needed to open up … so I did. But I’m careful with whom I share things with. Some people are untrustworthy!

  • Take vacations when you feel is needed. “Work will always be there.” Something my supervisor said to me when I would say I’ll take a certain day off but end up coming in.

I just hate coming back from “vacation” with a pile of work! It stresses me more than if I was to be at work. But so far, I’m taking it one day at a time. People tend to ask where I go on my vacation days. Answer? Nowhere. I tend to just stay home and work on my side job. Fun stuff!

I dabble “part time” with graphic design and on some projects, I get paid. If it’s for friends and their family, more often then not, I feel like a douche asking for money. Often times, I tell them it’s whatever they want to pay me and if they forget then I don’t speak up. I’m telling myself, it’s good practice. Hoping one day I can get more jobs because I really do enjoy doing it.

  • Live life and have fun! I don’t regret focusing on school and my extra curricular activities from middle school through college. I love helping others and knowing that I’ve helped them makes it worth all the while so I know I chose correctly. I just wished I knew how to balance life better. To do all that and have fun. I’m learning slowly but surely.

Every Monday, I go out to the television studio and help out with the cameras for my friends’ show. I do not get paid for this and I’m okay with it. I see it as time spent with friends. Kind of reminds me of high school which makes sense since all of them went to high school with me except for two in the picture above. They’re a goofy, musically talented bunch of kiddos who make me laugh, and truthfully when everyone’s there, it makes my heart smile.

The Secret Blogger Club Hosts are The Blonder Side of Life and Nuthouse with their co-host of the month, Simply Kendall Rose. The topic is to brag about yourself. You’ll find my brags underlined and italicized. I’m sure I’m doing it incorrectly. Bragging can get awkward so this was kind of tough for me. Because of that, I kept it to the topic of my anniversary and what I’ve learned.

Happy Wednesday, Doodies!
