2020 | Week 34 of Quarantine | Ethan and Emmy Swap

November 8, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2020 | Week 34 of Quarantine | Ethan While Working

How do you watch a baby that likes to swipe and bang on your keyboard while you work? Give him teethers and put him in your lap of course! This kept him busy enough for me to churn out some things before handing him back to Dad.

2020 | Week 34 of Quarantine | Ethan, Rocky, Rizzo Walk

June and I took him on our walks. He does pretty well during them. He mostly sings to himself, “dances”, and smiles a lot. There was one day where he screamed his head off and did NOT like being in his stroller. This resulted me in having to push the stroller, ensuring Rizzo didn’t get tied up in the wheels, and held him ALL THE WAY BACK HOME. He is not light but I did it.

2020 | Week 34 of Quarantine | Ethan Sleeping at Walks

Most days, this is how he ends up. Asleep. I usually go a little longer so he can get in a little more rest before he gets woken up to me taking him out. Then he usually plays a bit more, drinks his milk, before going to bed. He’s pretty easy to take care of, for the most part.

2020 | Week 34 of Quarantine | Ethan & Emmy Swap | Cane's

On Friday, Brudda and I met up halfway. Mum came along for the sibling swap. I gave Ethan back, and in return, got Emmy. We stopped by Cane’s for dinner. Mum was super excited because she’s been wanting Cane’s for a long time. Emmy loves their lemonade.

2020 | Week 34 of Quarantine | Emmy Entertainment

Keeping an almost 4 year old entertained is tough stuff but we’re pushing through. We have some things planned to do with her and I’ve taken a few days off to spend time with her but mostly because I have a little too much vacation.

2020 | Week 34 of Quarantine | Eats

Foods this week was a treat! Especially the ones where I didn’t have to pay for it. Those always taste the best! Seeing Emmy gobble up a happy meal makes me quite happy since the last time she visited, she wasn’t a fan! Oh, how she’s grown!

Mum had her first cataract surgery Wednesday, on her left eye. So far, everything seem to have gone well. She has her next one this coming Wednesday for her other eye. Once both is complete, she will be able to see far but not close which is not bad at all. Here’s to hoping all goes well!

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | Halloween Trivia | $50 Amazon Winner

Work had a Halloween Trivia. First place got $50, Second got $25 and Third got $10. Guess what your girl got? First place. Whoop. My Amazon balance is growing.

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | Ethan and Mellie Dee

I’ve been filling my days with Ethan time. So much laughter and so much tears. Top right is my baby sweater since he didn’t have too many warm clothes packed. Luckily Mum went and bought some.

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | Ethan Playing

Keeping him entertained is tough at this time. I can’t give him an activity for him to play by himself but luckily any little thing can catch his attention.

He heard me play and sing guitar for the first time. He laughed and tried to sing along with me. He even danced and clapped his hand. So adorable.

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | Ethan, Rizzo, Rocky

Rocky tends to keep his distance but since Rizzo follows me everywhere, his favourite toy is Rizzo though. Any chance he gets, he tries to pull on his hair. I gave Rizzo a haircut because of it. And don’t worry, we watch Ethan like a hawk to ensure he’s not harmed!

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | BBBS Zoom

I had our second Zoom call with Big Brother Big Sister. The relationship is still new but we’re getting there!

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | Permian Tumblers from Roblyn

I was off Friday and was able to meet up with Roblyn. When I went into the field last year we saw these tumblers in different colours and thought it was pretty cool. On the other side is our company’s logo. I wish I got a different colour than black but I’m just glad I got one! Apparently one of the wives got an okay from the company to make them.

Roblyn works out in the field but due to Covid she’s been back in Houston and we ended up having an almost 3 hour conversation sitting in our cars. It’s weird how you could just click with someone you barely know.

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | Jinya with Sebastian

After meeting Roblyn, I met up with Sebastian. We had plans to go to Samuri but it was closed so we opted for Jinya. It’s been a long while since we last saw one another and per usual, our conversation lasted way longer than we expected. I’m so happy to hear about all the new stuff happening in his life and hope that all goes well!

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | Addressing Beth's Invites with Mallory

After hanging out with Sebastian, I made my way to Mallory’s house. We addressed all the invitations for Beth’s shower and mailed them off.

We went over to her neighbors and then Beth came over. It’s been months since I’ve seen John so I stayed until he came home.

Seeing so many people in one day tired me out but it was well worth it. For one day, life felt a bit normal.

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | Sissy's Birthday and Local Table

Saturday was Halloween but more importantly, Sissy’s birthday. We celebrated by ordering food from Local Table. Their goat cheese is bomb. I’ve also always wanted to buy a theme cake and was glad I got to get a Halloween one.

This is the first time in a long time Sissy’s seen Ethan and I believe first time for BIL. as expected, Ethan was not a happy camper but I’m glad they got time with him.

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | Honey Butter Croissant, Tiff's Treats and Korean Soup

Good eats came in the form of Tiff’s Treats and my usual Korean soup due to the cold front.

If you haven’t already done this …. get the honey butter sauce from Whataburger and slather it on a warm croissant. #drool

2020 | Week 33 of Quarantine | Daily Walks with Ethan and Rizzo

I will say I slacked a little and didn’t make 10000 steps every day this week. I’m not mad about it though. Taking Ethan on the walks is so fun. I love watching his little feet dance and listening to him sing.

Few more days until we bid him goodbye. I’m not ready!

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas & Camping

October 25, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Glow in the Dark Dip Nails

New Nails, who dis?

I was in meetings so much that I had time to do my nails into glow in the dark! Perfect for camping.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Mercedes & Sebastian's Baby Shower Gift | Saint Arnold Voucher

I had little surprises in the mail like a Saint Arnold’s voucher which I don’t have time to use, and Mercedes and Sebastian’s baby shower present for winning a game. Their little one was born this weekend and he is precious!

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Daily Sunset Walks

June and I did our daily walks up until we left for Dallas.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Tiff's Treats | Viet | Lebanese Grill

Thursday: there was a 20% off for Tiff’s Treats so I ordered some to Brudda’s house so that when I arrived, I had some to snack on. They ordered Viet food for the family but I opted for just eggrolls and ordered from Lebanese Grill, enough for leftovers.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Mellie Dee & Ethan

I haven’t held Ethan since March. He was probably questioning who this random lady is. And he cried BIG, GIANT tears when I held him the first time. You can see it on the top right picture. He started warming up to me though.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Mellie Dee & Emmy

Friday: Emmy ended up sleeping with me. She had a great kick playing with my glow in the light nails and kept wanting me to tell Alexa to turn on and off the lights. When we woke up, we took some pictures and silly videos.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Emmy & McDonalds

Then it was off to see the wizard. Just kidding. Brudda, SIL, Emmy, June, and I picked up McDonald’s and headed to Glenn Rose, Texas. Emmy is living the life. Oh to be a kid again.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Fossil Rim Wildlife Center | Glenn Rose, Texas | Emmy

We finally made it to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. We picked up our cup of feed and drove towards the animals.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Fossil Rim Wildlife Center | Glenn Rose, Texas | Emmy, Brudda, Mellie Dee

Emmy came up to the front to sit with me while we went through the place. She had SO much fun feeding the animals and made all these animal noises. Brudda got pecked by an ostrich which was funny but not. Emmy is probably scarred by ostriches now.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Fossil Rim Wildlife Center | Glenn Rose, Texas | Animals

We were warned that since it rained so much and the temperature dropped, the giraffes and rhinos may not be visible. We didn’t see a lot of variety but we still had a lot of fun. We saw a giant moose scratching himself with his antlers, and two deers bucking. It was so quiet you can hear when they clash.

After the safari, we headed to Brookshire Brothers to pick up a few things (mostly for the restrooms) and as we drove, we saw Jenny, Le, and Joey speeding past us. It was perfect since we didn’t have signal and couldn’t contact them.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Dinosaur Valley State Park | Glenn Rose, Texas | Brudda & Mellie Dee

When we checked into Dinosaur Valley State Park, we packed up the wagon and made our way to our campsite. Before and after our tents were set up. I opted for a cheaper tent that wasn’t a pop-up since I didn’t know if I’d like camping. I was super proud of us for setting up the tents very quickly! The only thing I’ll need to get for next time is a tarp for easier cleanup.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Dinosaur Valley State Park | Glenn Rose, Texas | Sightseeing | June, Le, Jenny, Joey, Brudda, Emmy

We did some sightseeing. One of my hands had more light and so as it turned dark, one hand glowed! So freaking cool.

We also did some walks in the dark to the car so that we could drive to the public restrooms since Emmy isn’t used to popping a squat.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Dinosaur Valley State Park | Glenn Rose, Texas | Emmy

The many faces of Emmy. She was pure entertainment.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Dinosaur Valley State Park | Glenn Rose, Texas | Food | Brudda, SIL, Emmy, Jenny, Le, Joey

Thanks to Le for cooking our dinner. Cheeseburgers, steaks, and sweet potatoes. We had Turtle chips while we waited and before you freak out, they’re not made of turtles! We also made S’mores. Emmy loves them.

Once it got dark, we all retreated into our tents and bundled up. I watched a movie I had downloaded and played some games before falling asleep. The weather was in the 40s. Thanks to my ski jacket, double layer leggings, wool socks, sleeping mat, and sleeping bag, I was SUPER warm. I can’t say the same for the others.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Dinosaur Valley State Park | Glenn Rose, Texas | Sightseeing | Brudda | Sunrise

If you know me, waking up randomly through the night is my norm so when I finally saw Brudda get up, we both went to take some pictures of the landscape/sunrise. It was nice getting one-on-one time with him as we rarely do nowadays.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Dinosaur Valley State Park | Glenn Rose, Texas | Emmy Cold

When we got back to the campsite, everyone was awake and Emmy was not a happy camper. Pun intended. She was cold and hungry. Once we packed up everything and got back to the car, she was happy to have Pringles in her lap and back in her car seat.

Overall, my first camping trip was a success. Even though it was only for a day, I had a lot of fun. I finally get to cross of camping from my list and I hope I get to do more of it in the future.

Anyone down to camp? Glamping is allowed. I just need more nature and hikes!

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Bull Daddy Noodle Bistro | Plano, Texas

When we got back to the house, Sammi was nice enough to order and pick up food from Bull Daddy Noodle Bistro. Fried rice, fried tofu, green onion pancakes, and fried chicken. Nothing fancy but still good to satisfy our hunger.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Emmy, Ethan, Mellie Dee, Rizzo, Pluto

I put in some Ethan and Emmy time. She fell asleep and I find it super adorable that Rizzo fell asleep next to her. Pluto also came into our room and slept with June and we all took a nap together.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Christmas Photoshoot | Mellie Dee and Emmy

Then we got ready and headed to the studio for Christmas pictures. I went to help and snuck in some pictures just so I can have it for memories. I pulled her around on a sled and she loved it. I wonder if she’ll love real snow.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Ethan, Emmy, Mellie Dee Handhold

On our way back to the house, I sat in the back with Ethan and there was a moment where I left my hand in between the seats and Ethan and Emmy both grabbed my hand. My heart. #neverletmego

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Dallas | Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey and Boiling Crab

Sammi went and picked up Boiling Crab while SIL picked up some Chinese food. SIL’s parents were coming over to hang out with my parents and Jenny and Le came over as well. We drank some Skrewball which is AMAZING and ate some delicious snowcrabs and shrimp. We talked and caught up for hours and hours before everyone left. Emmy slept with us again and when she woke up she wanted to leave with us.

2020 | Week 32 of Quarantine | Whataburger and Ethan

Sadly that wasn’t the plan as we planned to take Ethan home. But in two weeks, we’ll be switching kids and I’ll get Emmy! We got Whataburger and listened to podcasts the whole ride home. Ethan didn’t have too many fusses on the drive. I can’t wait to see how he is during these two weeks. #dontleaveme

Today marks two years. I’ve learned so much about myself since that day. I had all these expectations of experiences with someone so we had all these memories for when we grew old but I was too mousey to speak up on what I truly needed/wanted. But being single has helped me not to care as much and to just do what I truly want to do. So many experiences are still out there for me to conquer and I am ready. I just hope if I ever love someone again, they’ll be willing to do some outdoorsy stuff because I am loving all the mother nature I’ve been getting these couple of years.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Jacob’s First Birthday at Dewberry Farms | Katy, Texas

October 18, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Work - Own Team Comment

Work is not slowing down but people are acknowledging the crazy work load we have so they are more lenient. I got a good compliment the other day so I’ll put it here as a reminder of what my future could one day hold.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Jacob's First Birthday | Mellie Dee & Jacob

I unwind by spending time with the birthday boy Friday. He turned one!! If you’re wondering, we’re both look super amazing with blonde hair. He also doesn’t like to smile at the camera too much.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Dewberry Farms | Katy, Texas | Mallory, JJ, Jacob, Madison, Danica, Mellie Dee

We went to Dewberry Farm for a few hours. The drizzly rain and wind didn’t slow us down and saw A LOT of pumpkins.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Dewberry Farms | Katy, Texas | Carved Pumpkins

There were hundreds of carved pumpkins all lit up. I wonder how much these people get paid. They are so intricate!

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Dewberry Farms | Katy, Texas | Gemstone Mining | Mallory, JJ, Danica

We also went gemstone mining and got some cool rocks.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Dewberry Farms | Katy, Texas | Train Ride | Mallory, JJ, Jacob, Madison, Danica, Mellie Dee

We rode the train (social distance style!) and saw a lot of Christmas trees growing. The ones with a little white makes my heart happy. I hope one day I get to chop one down but I heard the clean up is horrible.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Dewberry Farms | Katy, Texas | Flower Picking | Mallory, JJ, Madison, Danica

We went and picked some flowers and did a tiny photoshoot with the sunflowers. I gave Mum the flowers I picked and she thought they were fake!

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Dewberry Farms | Katy, Texas | Ferris Wheel | Mallory, JJ, Jacob, Madison, Danica, Mellie Dee

Mallory, JJ, Madison and Danica all went up on the Ferris Wheel. I stayed below with Jacob. The people working the wheel kept them on it for SO many iterations. When Mallory and JJ got off, we left Madison and Danica to stand in line for food. Apparently Madison had to ask to get off since they weren’t going to let her.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Dewberry Farms | Katy, Texas | Eats

They packed their lunch but if you know me, you know I’m all for getting some goodies. I got a corn dog and a Souvenir cup. Souvenir cup is not worth it but it’s cute.

I got the funnel cake fries (good), churros (horrible), and corn cup (delicious!) to share. And I also grabbed a bag of kettle corn before leaving since I knew June loves it.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Dewberry Farms | Katy, Texas | Black Hole, Animals, Maze, Ride | Danica & JJ

We did other things like the Black Hole (don’t take kids!), saw animals, rode some rides, and did my first Corn Maze.

I had a lot of fun with my first time in Dewberry Farms and hope to come back again in the future.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Good Eats

Lots of good eats this week.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | Daily Walks | Rizzo

And our usual walks to burn it all off. That top picture makes my heart so happy.

2020 | Week 31 of Quarantine | I Voted! | Mellie Dee

Today I went and voted! The finger condom is super cute and the location I went to was not busy this time. I hope everyone is going out there and voting or at least mailing in their ballots.

This weekend went by too fast. I need to figure out my vacation days and use up last years. I need a recharge.

2020 | Week 30 of Quarantine

2020 | Week 30 of Quarantine | Cartoon Mellie Dee and Rizzo

What Rizzo and I would look like if we were cartoon characters. How scary.

2020 | Week 30 of Quarantine | Furry Moths

We had three different moths show up in our backyard on the same day. They are furry and a little creepy. Brudda found an article about how the furry caterpillars can sting people and that’s what these probably are once they get their wings.

2020 | Week 30 of Quarantine | Eating Well

I ate so well this week. Sonic, ice cream, hot pot, and veggie boil dipped in seafood boil sauce. Steak the day before donating and tacos the day of before donating. YUM!

2020 | Week 30 of Quarantine | Blood Donation | Mallory & Mellie Dee

Mallory and I met up to donate and we got a picture together. We rarely take pictures together so it’s nice to have one for the blog.

2020 | Week 30 of Quarantine | Daily Walk Views

Daily walks still going strong. 10000+ steps still going strong. We walk earlier now so I don’t get to see the sunset as much but the feeling of accomplishment every time makes it worthwhile!

2020 | Week 30 of Quarantine | Daily Walk Stone Quote

I found this rock while walking which made me smile. #thelittlethings

2020 | Week 30 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee & Rizzo

Love the time I get with Rizzo. We do a whole lot of nothing together after our hour+ walks. My 10 steps equal his 30 steps. I love when he cuddles next to me or when he burrows himself into the blankets. Cutest thing.
