Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom | Katy, Texas

January 13, 2016 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Hump Day! The weekend is almost over and I’m excited. Hopefully I will be without much pain, enough to actually go out this weekend. Fingers crossed. I miss seeing some peoples in my life!

Hedgehog Mug GiftHow cute is this? One of my coworkers saw this and bought it for me. Eeeep!! If you can’t tell, it’s a hedgehog mug. Super adorable. I cannot wait to use this when I have my new place … whenever that is.

Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom | Katy, Texas

Last night’s Mellie Dee & Mallory’s weekly hangout ended up at:

Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom
24515 Katy Fwy
Katy, Texas 77450
(281) 347-0090
http://oldchicago.com

Their menu is a little crazy. Too much to chose from. And if you know me, I’m not a big lover of pizza but she is so that’s why we were there. We are trying a new thing this year where we try new places and we’re doing well so far.

Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom | Katy, Texas Fries, Calzones, Pizza

Parmesan Garlic Fries [tossed with Italian garlic seasonings and drizzled with our creamy garlic sauce] | $3.99

They were okay. We tasted more garlic than Parmesan. I would probably just get a burger with fries next time because the fries are made to perfection.

Chicago 7 Calzone [an Old Chicago original with pepperoni, Italian sausage, and onions, black olives, green peppers, sliced mushrooms, and a blend of mozzarella, ricotta, and Asiago cheeses] | $10.99

Bleugh … super thick dough which turned hard. Somehow there were two layers of crust which made it worse. I just ate the insides which wasn’t bad but nothing special.

Hawaiian [Canadian bacon, pineapple, red peppers, green onions and sweet Thai chili tomato sauce] | individual size $11.59

Not a lover of pineapples but we both like this over the calzone but even then … meh. Nothing special.

If I end up here again, I’d try a burger or wings instead. The pizza isn’t horrible but I would stay away from the calzone. The service was pretty slow and there wasn’t even much people there. It took Mallory a good 15 minutes to get her beer. Would we come back again? Probably for our birthdays for free pizzas but that’s about it.

Things I’m Loving | GoodReads and OverDrive

January 12, 2016 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

New EOS Love

Darn cold weather makes my lips so dry. One of my favourite things? Using up an old chapstick and opening a new one. Yeah, I’m kinda weird like that. But it’s so purdy. And because of the cold weather, I’ve been loving sitting outside with a hot cup of tea, bundled up with a book. Reading use to be one of my favourite things in the world and I stopped due to being busy. But are we really ever busy? We make time for the things we love and I’ve started making time for reading again.

I came across Anchored to Sunshine last night and just fell in love. Sorry, Amanda, I hope I don’t freak you out with this post. Especially since we haven’t formally been introduced. Hi, I’m Mellie Dee and I am in love with the fact that you’re so in love with reading. Nice to meet you!

GoodReads

Reading through a few of her posts made me sign back into GoodReads (where you can follow me). Hopefully I update that throughout the year because I haven’t updated that thing in forever and I kinda wished I did. I end up having a digital version and a physical copy or I’ve actually read it before but didn’t remember. Such a waste of money.

Books To Read

I’ve told myself starting now, I am only allowed to read what I own (digital and physical copies) or get them for free. My new goal I just added in budgeting. The top shelf are all books that I have yet to read. Don’t be fooled, there are two layers worth of books there.

OverDrive App

Luckily, there’s apps like OverDrive which Sissy told me about way back when. I’m not sure many people know about this but you can link your local library and borrow books that way … FREE of charge. Ebooks or Audiobooks. I’ve never tried audiobooks but after seeing how Amanda does it a lot, I’m giving it a try. I went and downloaded the app along with a book I’ve been wanting to read but felt was a waste of money to buy. I hope I end up loving this whole listening way because that would be amazing to get through all the books I’ve been dying to read.

I’m currently reading a physical book for when I am not busy working on other things and I’m excited to listen to another book while I’m at work. I’m not a great writer as Amanda so I’m not going to lie … I most likely won’t be doing book reviews and whatnot. But will probably update you all on if I finish a book. I even went ahead and signed up for GoodReads’ 2016 Reading Challenge. I set a goal for 15 books for the year but hope I exceed that. Thanks, Amanda, for getting me back on track.

Stay Positive and Think Good Thoughts!

Quote | Date A Girl Who Reads – Rosemarie Urquico

January 9, 2016 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

My anxiety skyrocketed last night. Unknown as to what triggered it, and afraid it would get worse, I decided to cancel my plans and stay home. I’m not disappointed though. It gave me time to:

  • fix up my resume though it still needs a lot more work
  • finished watching The Amazing Race China with Mum (one of the Hong Kong teams won! yay!)
  • crocheted – I want to crochet, knit, sew scarves, blankets, etc. and donate them to the homeless when it gets cold. If I make at least a handful this year, I’ll be happy and maybe one day it’ll grow into something bigger. One could dream and that dream would be awesome. Who wants to join me?
  • started watching I Dream of Jeannie
  • started reading a new book

Date a Girl Who Reads - Rosemarie Urquico

via

Speaking of reading books, CLICK ON THIS LINK for the best thing ever written as to why you should date a girl who reads. Above is only a small excerpt of a longer passage but I promise it’s not THAT long. The whole entire thing is my favourite but if you’re lazy to click to read it, another good part is:

It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books … Give her the gift of words, in poetry and in song … Let her know that you understand that words are love … Because girls who read understand that all things must come to end, but that you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two … date a girl who reads. Or better yet, date a girl who writes.

So single men out there, in case you’re looking for just that, I’d just like you to know … I read and write … so holla at me. haha jk.

Debating if I should go to tonight’s party or not. I am so lazy. Happy Saturday, loves!
