The Best Hummus Ever

July 31, 2013 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

Hello my Doodies. It’s been a while since I’ve read a blog. Thanks a lot broken laptop (and because I’ve been busy). I’m on my desktop so all is well. I’ll definitely read the blog posts I’ve missed tomorrow night!

Yesterday a coworker had a birthday so we went out to lunch. Our wonderful BossMan paid for our meal … with his own credit card when we were through eating. I was very surprised. I never expect anyone to ever pay for me so it’s always a big shock to me when they do. We went to:

Kasra Persian Grill
9741 Westheimer Rd
Houston, TX 77042
(713) 975-1810
www.kasrahouston.com

Taftoon Bread [served with herb plate of basil, mint, parsley, green onion, radish & feta cheese | Free

So freaking good. There were crunchy parts because it was thin, then there were fluffy parts. Gah, we literally had plates of that.

Hummus [ground chickpeas, sesame seed paste, garlic & lemon juice] | $4

Not sure if you can see it in the picture with the Taftoon Bread but this is by far the best hummus I’ve ever had. If you love hummus you have to go here and try it – take me with you. You won’t regret it. Especially when you eat it with that wonderful bread.

Shishleek Combo (C2) [one skewer with a combination of Beef Chenjeh and Chicken Barg served with grilled vegetables & Basmati white rice] | $10.99

I took a few forkfuls of that Basmati rice. I would of cleaned that all up but after all that bread I felt it would be carb overload. The beef (a little pink inside) was juicer than the chicken so I ate one of the chicken pieces and gave the rest away. As for the grilled vegetables, it came with two slices zucchinis, two slices slices onions, two slices tomatoes, and one slices bell pepper. The zucchinis and bell pepper were on point but the onions still felt raw to me. I didn’t even try the tomatoes because … ew.

Will I come back here? Heck yes I would. I already know what I’m going to order. Taftoon Bread (keep them coming), Hummus and Beef Chenjeh with a small side of Basmati white rice me. Thank you. Cannot wait to take Mum here.

*The prices indicated above is for the Lunch Menu.

We had a 7-hour workshop today and we didn’t finish everything so it continues to tomorrow. Bleugh! But I can’t complain much. We got free Pappasito’s for lunch AND one more day before the weekend! Dun Dun Dunnnnnnn … I’ve got plans to see the wonderful Apurva. Cannot wait!

The weekend is almost here y’all! Keep on truckin’!

Baker’s Worst Nightmare

July 30, 2013 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

Saturday:

Michelle and I finally got to catch up about life, work, and of course, her wedding! A possible 2015. Dress is picked though and it looks LOVELY on her. L-O-V-E-L-Y. We had a late lunch date for over two hours at:

Zoe’s Kitchen
2643 Commercial Center Blvd
Ste 300
Katy, TX 77494
(281) 347-1017
www.zoeskitchen.com

20130727_14115920130727_141206

Hummus with Pita Bread (Appetizer) – I wasn’t impressed with their hummus. It wasn’t grainy and perfectly smooth, but the taste wasn’t as flavorful as I’d hoped. The pita bread is pita bread. Nothing wrong there.

Grilled Vegetables (Side) – They probably made it with pats of butter on those bad boys … who knows. But whatever the case it was good. Is it worth the price for a size that small? No.

This place is like Panera Bread to me … but not as fancy. Will I come here again? Possibly. But do I love it enough to want to, probably not.

silvervia

We said our goodbyes and I went home and took a glorious nap, waking up to a KitchenAid. YEP. You read that correctly. I am now an owner of a KitchenAid. Kenson and his parents got me one. I’ll let it sit in it’s box for a little bit until I can think of what to make.

IMG_20130727_203328

We headed off to Katie’s for an early birthday celebration. A wonderful Tres Leche cake from Whole Foods filled our tummies. Super creamy frosting and moist layers of cake. Just how a tres leche should be. Too sweet for my non-sweet tooth.

Sunday:

Went shopping and lunch with Mallory and Samantha. Mallory loves anything with skulls and Samantha loves anything that is red, white, and blue.

After a few hours of fun at the mall, I went home to use my computer to find out … it’s broken. What the eff, right? This one is my NEW one too. The one I just bought in December. I figured out a way to fix it so hopefully it works. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Monday:

IMG_20130729_211427

I made a coconut cake and a devil’s food cake for a coworker’s birthday but …

Tuesday (Today)

… upon taking it to my car, the coconut cake fell out of my hands and shattered on the floor. Worst. Day. Ever.

Baker’s worst nightmare is either the baked goods tasting bad, or dropping the baked goods. I did just that. *sigh*

Super long post but that’s what happens when your laptop fails on you.

Happy Tuesday, y’all.

Getting Fatter

June 16, 2013 by Mellie Dee 8 Comments

I’ve been M.I.A. and I’m not sorry. Family came and I’d rather spend it with them since I never see them. You’ll be able to see what we did down below which is mostly eating. Bah …

TUESDAY:

IMG_20130611_123811

Lunch with contractor company at the Omni Hotel. YUM!

Happy hour after work with Mallory, Stephen, Samantha and a nice reunion with Judith. It’s been forever but it was nice seeing her.

WEDNESDAY:

IMG_20130612_064348

OOIAJ for breakfast can never go wrong.

IMG_20130612_140200

At work. Our playground. Taking a break from working on our presentation that will be on this upcoming Wednesday. Eeks.

THURSDAY:

PhotoGrid_1371439031544

Mary Kay party with Mallory, Judith, Maggie, Mallory’s sister and mum, and her friend from soccer. I bought a few things that ended up being in the 80s. Whoops. Hopefully it’s worth it. Never thought I’d feel like a grownup until I bought expensive crap.

The question asked what kind of eyes I have … and Asian was a choice. Too funny. And might be a little racist …

FRIDAY:

Anvil Bar & Refuge

Houston, TX 77006

Went with brother and Tammy, and met up with Jenny and her new beau.

Boilermaker [1/2 pint of beer & paired spirit] | $8

It wasn’t bad. But I wouldn’t get this again.

Campari Popcorn | $5

It’s popped to order and Jenny and I were very excited for this … but when we ate a bite we wanted to throw up. Campari is apparently a type of liquor and once you it it you feel your taste buds turn bitter. Bleugh! Brother threw some limes on there and it helped.

Pork Belly Taco, Pickles, Ranch Dressing Cole Slaw | $8

Holy yum … get this whenever you land in anvil. So good. I wish there was more than 3 mini tacos on the plate though.

This place is unique with the way they make their drinks. So many different kinds. I really liked the Montebello (?) Tammy got … I would definitely get that instead next time!

PhotoGrid_1371438356372

88 Boiling Crawfish & Seafood
1910 Wilcrest Dr.
Houston, TX 77042
(713) 789-8288

Boudin, fries, crabs, crawfish, oysters … and so much more. It’s like Boiling Crab but better. Next time I’m getting two pounds of crawfish and boudin. Oh my boudin. They have happy hour in where their crawfish is a dollar off a pound. So amazing. I hope not many people find out about it because I love that it wasn’t packed!

After this we watched The Internship. Such a good funny movie. Go watch it if you haven’t.

SATURDAY:

IMG_20130615_205729

Went shopping at the outlet for forever and spent over $80 … whoops.

Came home and had Korean BBQ as celebration for Father’s Day. Mmm …

IMG_20130615_234504

Oreo Cake … too good.

IMG_20130616_003758

Played The Game of Things with brother, Tammy, and Jenny and her beau came over. Too much laughter. Love this game. We stayed up til 2am playing. We are ridiculous.

SUNDAY:

Kublai Khan
20940 Katy Freeway
Katy, TX 77449
(281) 398-3658

This place is better than Genghis Grill … in they give you more noodles/rice than GG. Won my heart. I want to go back already.

Brother, Tammy, and Jenny went back to Dallas along with Pluto and Krypto. Now I’m all alone.

Sad life. But love the time I had with them. We ate so much but now that everyone’s gone I’m able to stop eating out as much.

Whoo … long post. Good night.

Full House Thursday

June 6, 2013 by Mellie Dee 6 Comments

IMG_20130606_063807

Every day starts fairly the same. A cup of Yogi tea for a daily inspirational quote. Ran out of Kombucha … who wants to restock my stash?

IMG_20130606_094516

Working hard … obviously. But seriously … work was crazy today. Our main water pipe burst so we had to walk to a different building to pee. Also ate lunch with BossMan and another coworker. Was kind of weird at first but it got a little better.

IMG_20130606_174413

Happy Hour with Mallory at:

G Bar
15455 Memorial Drive
Houston, TX 77079
(281) 497-2725

They gave out free ravioli! I got a Guinness (of course) and she got margarita on ice. And the bartender was SUPER nice!

Loved the way the place is set up! Like a living room with a bar! With a fireplace and everything!

The only thing weird was the customers. This one girl seem to look like she was working the place … if you know what I mean.

PhotoGrid_1370573481264

We moved our Happy Hour to:

Cafe Benedicte
15455 Memorial Drive
Houston, TX 77079
(281) 558-6607
www.cafebenedicte.com

and Samantha met up with us.

Bread & Butter | free

Not too sure what was in the butter but my gosh … too good. Garlic perhaps? Must try. Just don’t overdose on it.
The bread itself was hard on the outside and super soft on the inside. YUM.

Hurricanes

Not a fan. Too fruity for me so Samantha took the rest.

Colorado Bulldog

Ordered this instead which is like a White Russian mixed with root beer? Too strong.
Was not a big fan of it either. But liked it better than the Hurricanes.

Lobster Bisque | cup $4.75

Yum. Didn’t care for the lobster pieces inside but the soup. MY GOSH.
Mallory ordered two soups but they were no match for this delicious one.

Gyro [with romaine, tomatoes, and Tzatziki Sauce in Greek pita bread, slow roasted lamb, house fries] | Half $7.95

I didn’t really like the pita bread. So I ate the inside only.
The fries were yummmmmmmm! They’re potatoes. Come on! Of course they’re yum.

I know I’m making it sound like I didn’t like this place but it really wasn’t at all bad. Very expensive if you look at the menu and get the whole meal but I would come here again and try something.

IMG_20130606_212347

Came home to a full house of dogs and people. Brother and Tammy are home for about a week and brought Krypto along. It’s nice to have them here but it would of been better if it wasn’t due to these circumstances. My cousins’ grandma passed away last week and we have a funeral to go to this Saturday.

This picture is of all the dogs waiting patiently for my brother to drop any of the food he’s eating. Too cute.

Watching the Spurs vs Heat game. Go Spurs Go!

And then watching the Redbox movies we rented! Yay!!

Hope y’all had a great Thursday!

Nit Noi Thai Restaurant & Cafe

May 7, 2013 by Mellie Dee 6 Comments

Friday, two of my coworkers, Endrina & Edie, (they call me “daughter”, I call them “mama”) took me out for lunch as a super early birthday celebration. Any May babies out there?!

Nit Noi Thai Restaurant & Cafe
1005 Dairy Ashford Rd
Houston, TX 77057
(281) 496-9200
www.nitnoithai.com

Ordered our array of curry and it came with free salad! Score. Too saucy though but still good. No picture … just picture a salad.

20130503_122003

Crispy Spring Rolls [2 per order] | $2.95 each

Endrina ordered two orders of this, It tasted more like coleslaw without the mayonnaise in that little wrapped roll. Not a fan. If I was to go by myself with someone else, I would not recommend this.

20130503_122704

Red Curry Hurry [with beef] | $9.95

I got it with Medium spice. This was the only curry out of all the others she asked what level of spiciness I wanted it. And it was the perfect level. I loved this one a lot. It had potatoes, pineapples, beef, basil, and green beans.

The only thing I could do without is the pineapples but it didn’t bother me. Mmm … most recommended.

20130503_122707

Panaeng is Curry So Hurry [with chicken] | $9.95

Filled with chicken and green beans. The flavor from this one tasted like Mum’s curry so I automatically liked this a lot. They said it tasted a little bitter … which I don’t agree but all our palettes are different. I would recommend this to people for sure!

20130503_122710

Musamun is Curry Too [with chicken and tofu] | $9.95

Filled with carrots, potatoes, tofu, chicken, and potatoes. My least favorite. Not sure why but it was sweeter and had a more peanut taste to it. I would only recommend this if they stopped serving the other two.

The good: As much rice as you’d like. I don’t think they charged us extra for that.

The bad: lack of ingredients in the curry. It was super saucy which is great for rice but if they made the price go up just a little and added more ingredients, it would be well worth it.

20130503_125424

Edie bought me a present. Yay pens. I’m excited. I wish I had super important documents to sign … like a real business woman.

Internet is almost here. I am too excited to be able to connect with y’all whenever the heck I want!

Happy Tuesday, y’all!
