Girl’s Night in San Antonio

January 11, 2019 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

San Antonio Bound with Monkey

I worked a full day and headed off to San Antonio right after. I was so tired and pooped out that the drive was actually not that great especially because it rained the whole time. Coffee didn’t even help and instead just made me want to pee.

Whenever I travel alone I usually bring along a stuffed animal for company. It makes me not as scared. I’m a kid at heart. It’s been tough doing things alone after having someone with you almost 24/7 but I’ve been pushing myself to be independent again.

Taquitos West Ave | San Antonio, Texas

It was almost a four hour drive but I survived! I drove to Patricia’s and we headed to Thuy’s soon after. I haven’t been to her house since the bridal shower and they got a lot of work done on the house. So homey and calming.

We went to Taquitos West Ave. I’ve been wanting to go here the last four times I’ve been in town so I was so excited. They are SO good! I’m told the other location is even better so my goodness I need that next time!

Panaderia West Ave | San Antonio, Texas

We went next door to the Panaderia West Ave, a bakery for some goodies. This one is actually for Patricia’s brother but hey, picture opportunity. I felt bad because germs but she said he wouldn’t mind so …

Thuy, Patricia, Mellie Dee

We stopped for a quick group picture before heading back to Thuy’s house. I’ve realized I don’t have many pictures with Thuy so this is perfect. I love y’all!

Wine at Thuy's

We went back to Thuy’s, gave Vu his food and sat on the couch with our wine. We talked about so many things but mostly about guys and the like. You know, usual girl talk.

I haven’t caught up with Thuy in so long so it was long overdue. Poor Patricia was a trooper for staying up best she could so I could have my hangout time with Thuy. You’re the best, P!

State Fare Kitchen & Bar | Houston, Texas

State Fare Kitchen and Bar | Houston, Texas

I woke up, got ready and met Juhi, Vijay, and Erin at State Fare Kitchen & Bar. I loved seeing their little glowing words – “good vibes only please”.

State Fare Kitchen and Bar | Houston, Texas | Mimosa Flight
Mimosa Flight [orange, pineapple, pomegranate, grapefruit] | $14

We shared a Mimosa Flight which some thought was a little too much champagne. Mine was perfect though – grapefruit is always the way to go! I love how Vijay has his thumbs up without knowning. Thanks and Gig ‘Em! haha

State Fare Kitchen and Bar | Houston, Texas | Avocado & Street Corn Toast
Avocado & Street Corn [local whole grain bread, mashed avocado, elote, crema, tajin] | $8 (fried egg | $1)

This was in it’s own category. Was it the best, no. But was it good enough to satisfy my taste buds of elote? Yes. I even got a boomerang shot of the egg yolk breaking. So pretty!

2018 | 363/365 | State Fare Kitchen and Bar | Houston, Texas | H-Town Hot Fried Chicken
H-Town Hot Fried [all natural half chicken, skillet cheddar potatoes & cauliflower] | $24

[2018] 363/365: Best Dang Half Chicken

This was literally the best half chicken I’ve ever had. The chicken breast was so moist (I hate that word) and the spicy crust was perfect crispness! I would definitely come back and order this again although I could do without the cheddar potatoes and cauliflower.

We had some great conversations and catch ups and cannot wait for more! Foodventures is pretty much all we do and when Juhi comes back from her stint in England, we can go back to our wonderful baking sessions. Eeek!

Hot Pot Dinner

Dinner consisted of hot pot since it had been freezing out. It hit the spot and I was happy to get my fish tofu and plethora of veggies.

7 Days to Die and Once Upon a Time

I felt like Emmy got most of us sick so I’ve been downing medicine and staying home as much as possible. When Brudda suggested playing 7 Days to Die, I jumped on it. BIL and Timothy joined in but it took thirty minutes to an hour to set up since we were having technical difficulties everywhere. I don’t know how I feel about it yet but I do not hate it that much. It’ll take time but deep down inside, I believe Diablo is a better game.

Finn’s Hall | Houston, Texas

Last Breakfast Klub at Work

Work is going continental breakfast on January 2nd so this will be my last Breakfast Klub from work. We’ll have one more free breakfast meal come Monday and that will be it. I’m lucky to have been fed so much working at this job.

Finn's Hall | Houston, Texas

I went to lunch with Vicky and Joel at Finn’s Hall.

2018 | 362/365 | Low Tide at Finn's Hall

[2018] 362/365: Finn’s Hall – Low Tide

I chose Low Tide with Joel while Vicky went Vietnamese. I’m not too certain how I feel about the place since I only tried one stall but I will say I am not a great fan.

The fish was way too big and wasn’t completely fried well. The batter was a bit raw on one side so it was a bummer having to pull it off. The gumbo was salty but was the best thing I ordered. The Crawfish etoufee balls don’t have much to comment on.

I am starting to get sick and I really hope it’s because of allergies I don’t know I have. Fingers crossed I get well soon because I don’t have time to be sick.

Skin Care, Foodie, & Parktime

December 23, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Sissy came over this morning and we all ordered IHOP takeout for breakfast. Afterward we played with Emmy for a while before Sissy, June and I headed to the new skin care store.

Tony Moly Haul

We thought they were connected since they technically are but you pay separately. Me and June’s haul. The Panda’s Dream from Tony Moly is one of my favourites! It really does make me feel a little more awake.

It's Skin Haul

I bought the two blue products from It’s Skin. The rest are June’s. Pore tightening serum and moisturizing mist. I just used both of these tonight and so far I’m feeling refreshed.

Beard Papa's | Katy, Texas

We stopped by Beard Papa’s, a place we’ve been dying to try. They are adorable but also costly. Each one costs almost $4!

Beard Papa's | Katy, Texas | Christmas Theme

They kept some festivity going with the sprinkles so they get some points there. As for taste, they’re not my favourite. We all agreed it’s not something we would ever crave and to be truthful I felt they tasted pretty much the same. We got vanilla creme in all of them but each shell is a different flavour.

Yan Tea | Katy, Texas

Mum wanted us to take some boba back home to her so I got a Hazelnut Milk Tea from Yan Tea for myself. Verdict? Too sweet and way too much ice. More than half of my drink was ice! I was very disappointed since it’s not cheap at all! Definitely not coming back here especially because they were so disorganized.

2018 | 357/365 | Photoshoot at the Park

[2018] 357/365: Photoshoot at the Park

A quick picture I snapped while the whole family went to the park. It was such a nice afternoon so it was perfect.

Photoshoot in the Park | Side Hustle

Brudda was going all out on his photography skills so I helped by holding a giant flash all around the park. Feeling a little important but mostly ridiculous.

Sleeping Rizzo Cuddles

Rizzo was so happy I was finally home and has not left squished next to me wherever I am. Sleepy baby.

Indianola | Houston, Texas

Downtown Views and Lunch

Today at work, I spilled the beans. I spilled them once everything is finalized though! I went out to lunch with Salim, Fahad, Vicky, and Vicky’s friend. We we’re going to go to Flynn Hall but it was packed so to the Conservatory it was. It was a windy walk but it was nice to get away.

2018 | 354/365 | INDIANOLA

[2018] 354/365: Indianola

After work Sissy, BIL, and I went to Indianola to celebrate some exciting stuff. Apparently they recently opened and are owned by the same people as Coltavarie. I will say that this place is way better than Coltavarie. Everything was so dang delicious. My favourite was definitely their lamb. I would go back just for that!

One more day of work until it’s Christmas break!! Or in my world, a long weekend. Haha
