Crawfish & Noods

June 8, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Jolynn's Crawfish with Salim

A long overdue crawfish session with Salim. It was apparently his second time having it and the first time this year. Who is this kid? We went to Jolynn’s since it seems to be equal driving for both of us. They’re more pricey and we didn’t really see many other customers there but their flavouring is still pretty great. I was surprised that he was okay with eating the heads!

Sharetea with Salim

Afterward, his fingers were burning and his lips were on fire so he suggested ice cream but he got too excited when I said there were a lot of boba places around so we ended up at Sharetea. I got the Taro Milk Tea and he got some kind of other milk tea. I wasn’t really paying attention. It was nice getting to talk nerdy stuff with him as we usually tend to be in a group.

Damian's Cucina Italiana | Houston, Texas | Tim & Tara's Going Away Dinner

Tim and Tara had a going away dinner tonight at Damian’s Cucina Italiana. She is so adorable with the decorations and games. It was crazy how Eric walked in and the girl he has been seeing for the last four months is My-Linh, a girl that I knew back in college. We pretty much just all sat together and caught up.

Damian’s Cucina Italiana | Houston, Texas | Tim & Tara’s Going Away Dinner | Food

Free bread for the table. Tara was sweet enough to order a few plates of appetizers (breaded asparagus, calamari, and some type of gnocchi) for the table. I got lobster bisque and Shrimp Damian. I was so full that I gave some of my food away. Every single thing there was delicious. This might just be my favourite Italian restaurant now. Well worth the money I spent. My-Linh was sweet enough to pay for my old fashioned. I don’t suggest ordering an old fashioned there though because they splashed in tonic water which is not how it’s made so that was a bummer.

Today has been filled with delicious foods that my stomach is a little too happy. I’m going to try and fit in a bit of studies before bed and maybe finish Chernobyl. Night, world!

Life Lately

June 7, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Hi. It’s been a while.

If you’ve been reading the blog, you’d notice I’ve been trying to have human interaction more. I’m not very social in the sense that I’m a homebody and I don’t do well meeting new people. Anxiety sets in and I just want to hide. I’ve been pushing myself to see where it takes me. Hopefully, this also helps with my networking skills.

Chuy's with Erin, Angie, Josh
Chuy’s with Erin, Angie, and Josh on Wednesday. Josh and I shared our chiropractor stories.

Speaking of work, it has been a whirlwind since next week will be Erin’s last week. Christopher and I have been making time to have lunch with her every day the best we can to absorb her in before she’s gone forever. I moved one of my three monitors over to her cube just so I can spend a little more time with her. We talked about going to Japan to visit but it might be a trip done separately depending on how things work out with my traveling plans next year.

Gyu Kaku with Erin, Rose, Michelle
Gyu Kaku with Erin, Rose, and Michelle because work was too much today.

Speaking of traveling, we decided to do a cousins trip towards the end of the year. We’re not too certain if this is a good idea or not especially since everyone has different forms of traveling and all want to do different things. So far, it’s civil but who knows what can happen. I’m planning to make shirts for us all but I might get lazy. And … maybe we’ll fight and the trip gets canceled.

Tree House Coffeehouse with Erin, Rose, Michelle
We went to Tree House for coffees afterward because they didn’t want to go back to work and it was too early for my chiropractor appointment. One of the best frappes I’ve ever had.

I’ve been spending a lot of time bettering my knowledge. I kind of put that on the back burner when Scruffy and I were dating. It’s hard getting back into the swing of things but so far I’m enjoying it and I know it’ll help me in the future as I do more.

Rizzo and Friend

Rizzo hasn’t been hiding anymore. Started eating again. He’s doing the small jumps but won’t do the big ones and will cry until I pick him up. We try to stop his jumps but he’s too fast sometimes. Hopefully, he’ll get better with time and won’t get worse. He got to spend tonight with Juan-Juan. I don’t think that’s how you spell it since it’s a girl but they got along well as Rose and I caught up.

Time to relax and finish up Chernobyl. Hope you all had a great week!

Music | Scars on My Heart by Del

June 4, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I’m fragile from my past and
I’m scared to open up

…

Is my heart still not ready?
Is it just not my time?

…

Cause I still have scars on my heart
From where it shattered and broke
I still have a love letter in the drawer that he wrote
I still feel the pain every once in a while
And I’m just hoping for a reason to make me smile

The girl that I was when I was
Living in blue
Is never a girl that needs to come back soon
Come back soon

Cause I’m finally getting stronger and
Standing on my own
That doesn’t change the fact that I still feel alone

2019 Dad’s Birthday and Old Fashioned

June 1, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Churrasco's | Dad's Birthday

We celebrated Dad’s birthday early with Mum, Sissy and BIL at Churrasco’s. Everything was delicious per usual but for the first time the service was very horrible. Refills weren’t given and the cake we should have gotten for his birthday didn’t happen. But overall we had a good time.

John Making Old Fashioned

I am currently over at Erin’s and John’s. They invited a good group of people to finish some of their alcohol and play Switch.

John made smokey old fashioned among other drinks and Juhi made me a gin and tonic. I never had one before and it tasted like water. I’m a chugger so I need to take a break.

Back to being with people. Hope you’re all having a great Saturday!

My Heart is Full

May 31, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I used to go to The Joint for chiropractic adjustments since they wouldn’t break the bank and Scruffy would tell me how they weren’t real doctors and they could break my back instead. I got scared and never went again but now that my insurance covers a big portion of it, I went to my first legit one this morning and it was euphoric, to say the least.

I had an assessment then an adjustment (freaking ASMR with the popping), electroshock therapy, and stretches on the machines. The lady assisting my stretches was shocked at how flexible I am. The machine only went to 110 degrees and I could go past it. I can do splits so it was a given. The last part was possibly my favourite. I laid on this table where a rolling punch machine goes up and down your spine in sections. I loved when it hit my lower back.

I go back next Friday for an evaluation on how much has changed in a week. Hopefully, we can decide on once a month but if I have to come back every week, I probably wouldn’t mind. I also found out that he opened his practice on May 15th 30 years ago, 2 days after my birth. How crazy is that! It was meant to be!

Bruno and Kato

I went to Sissy’s with Bruno and Kato bombarding my personal space as I put in some studies. They are so much better looking after their haircuts, don’t y’all think?

Conservatory Pho with Salim, Vicky, Justin

I took an Uber and met up with Salim, Vicky, and Justin at The Conservatory. Salim and I don’t work with them anymore so it was nice to band together and catch up. Soon, we were all walking back to “the office” together, bumping into Fahad and Tayeb. After a brief catch up, Joel showed up and we all disbanded as he and I walked to Starbucks for our catch up. We didn’t notice two hours had passed so we rushed back to his office for him to pick up his things while I wrote notes for Prisila and Noah. He was nice enough to take me back to Sissy’s instead of having to call another Uber.

The senior interns did their presentations last week to the owners of the company, higher-ups, etc. There’s a part where they have to mention one person that impacted them while they were at the company and Guisseppi chose me. ME! I was only a supervisor for less than four months so it’s shocking to me.

Many people may not know who she is since she is no longer an employee here but I chose her because I was very shy and she got me to come out of my shell. She was bubbly and easy to talk to, greeted me and asked me how I was doing to make sure every part of my life was okay, patiently taught me everything I know, and is just genuinely a nice and caring person.

Paraphrased from Joel who paraphrased from Guisseppi’s presentation

My heart, guys. MY HEART. If you go to my bucket list, you’d see “54. Make a difference in someone’s life”. I’m sure I’ve done this before, but to hear it, and for that person to announce it to “the world” makes my heart so happy. I also heard that the b*tch who gave me hell every single day I was there has tried adopting my personality but I’m told, no one is buying it.

This was a long post, but I wanted it to look back on one day so if you read it all, kudos to you! My heart is so full, and my back, though sore from the adjustment, is not in pain. It has legitimately been a great day.
