2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Part I

April 13, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | IHOP | Seguin, Texas

The day started off bright dark and early. We left the house by 5 AM meeting at Gordon’s by 5:30 AM. We drove for a long bit before stopping for breakfast at IHOP. So generic but it was the only thing opened on the way.

I had my usual chicken fried steak and eggs sharing some with the guests and giving away my pancakes (not shown) to Gordon.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Ranch | San Antonio, Texas

We drove a bit further landing at the location the rest of the trip will be at, Natural Bridge Caverns and Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch.

We started with the ranch first, where we got a map. Sadly we didn’t get the list of what the animals were and by the time we found out, we were too lazy to go back and get it. We still had fun though.

Gordon bought four bags of pellets to feed the animals.

We saw so many of them and many were unafraid to come up and stick their head in the windows. There were also many that were shy and only ate if we threw it on the floor. Overall, it was a great experience. I never expected to see so many variations so it was a plus.

[2018] 103/365: Become a Photographer

Just kidding. I am not going to be a photographer anytime soon ever. But this is one of my favourite shots I took so I didn’t resize the image. But look how chill that calf is!

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Natural Bridge Caverns | San Antonio, Texas | Entry

Right next door was the caverns so we headed there next. Gordon and Dad sat in the car while Wilson, Mei Mei and I made our way through the cave. This was the beginning, bright and breezy.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Natural Bridge Caverns | San Antonio, Texas | Formations

As we got further it, it got wetter, darker, and more humid. It was still a sight though.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Natural Bridge Caverns | San Antonio, Texas | Clear Waters

Look how clean that water is. And look at that formation! They had water fountains where you can try a bit of the cave water so we did it. It tasted a little funky, as it should be. This was my favourite shot down there so I didn’t resize this one either. This picture doesn’t do it justice but it’s the best I could do. Enjoy.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Fadi's Mediterranean Grill | Sugar Land, Texas

After that, we headed back home meeting up with Patsy, Sissy, and BIL at Fadi’s Mediterranean Grill.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Fadi's Mediterranean Grill | Sugar Land, Texas | Lamb Shank Meal

I got the lamb shank so it’s something they can try. I am in love with their cauliflower. The only thing I can order A LOT of and not get sick of. Score!

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Fadi's Mediterranean Grill | Sugar Land, Texas | Minty Tea

The lady was also nice enough to give us all complimentary tea.

After dinner, we all headed home. The guests are asleep and I’m going to follow suit soon – after a few episodes of New Girl though.

Night, everyone!

Songkran Thai Grill | Sugar Land, Texas

Songkran Thai Grill | Sugar Land, Texas

Scruffy and I started out the day at Andrew’s then late lunch at Songkran Thai Grill.

Songkran Thai Grill | Sugar Land, Texas | Unlimited Dim Sum Menu

We were going to order entrees until we saw the menu for all-you-can-eat dim sum, Thai style, for $14.95 per person.

We over ordered and are all stuffed to the brim. Their green beans and coconut green curry chicken were the most outstanding dishes.

I went home with Rizzo afterwards. This is him getting shut eye while sitting up in his booster car seat.

After much bouncing around he decided this was the best route for his head. Too funny.

The internet is out at my house so it’s all old school DVDs. Currently watching a Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen movie then maybe restart One Tree Hill. Hmm … Good night everyone!

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar | Sugar Land, Texas

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar | Sugar Land, Texas

Scruffy and I had lunch at Kura Revolving Sushi Bar.

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar | Sugar Land, Texas | Conveyor Belt

They are so high tech. Touchscreens, conveyor belts, dish counting, etc. The germaphobe in me wonders if anyone touches but doesn’t grab the dish but the germaphobe in me is also happy that they are all covered.

Some of the dishes we got. The black dish was not on the conveyer belt. Special ordered. Also, if you wanted any green plate ones made just for you, you could order on the touchscreen as well.

After fifteen green dishes went into the dish counting system, the touchscreen contraption sounded and out popped a prize.

What a great idea! Especially for little kids. I got little sushi stickers which are super adorable. I’m going to use this in my planner to commemorate this day. Best. Date. Ever.

Rizzo At The Dog Park

Afterward, we went home and grabbed all three pups, Rizzo, Luna, and Miles. I made Rizzo have a fast photoshoot. How adorable is he?!

[2018] 083/365: Rizzo Attacks At The Dog Park

Maybe not so adorable after seeing this picture. I promise, no one got hurt! This is how he plays, teeth and all. I love how the little pit bull pup looks. Kinda like, “Um, hey, you’re overreacting.”

Squirrel Waiting On The Driveway

When we got back, we saw this squirrel sitting like this for a good two minutes in the driveway staring back at us.

Pizza Hut Delivery with Scruffy and Andrew

After bathing all the dogs, and taking showers ourselves, Scruffy relaxed with some video games and I relaxed with some online Python classes. Then Andrew came over, we ordered Pizza Hut delivery, and have been sitting on the couch watching telly since.

We lead an interesting life, I know. I’m ready for bed, but first, more Python learning/telly watching.

Busy Body

March 21, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I had so much human interaction today, I felt like a busy body. Literally drained from it all but it was fun!

Pacific Coast Tacos | Sugar Land, Texas

This morning started with me cleaning the skimmer (pool filter) and Scruffy getting a call from his friend, Albert. He was in town and wanted to see if we were free for lunch so we headed to Scruffy’s recommendation of Pacific Coast Tacos.

Pacific Coast Tacos | Sugar Land, Texas | Salsa Bar

How cute is this Salsa Bar?! I made Scruffy get one of each so I could try it all. Habanero and Roasted Tomatillo was my favourite. Scruffy loved the Tomatillo. The real winner though was none of the above. It was from a bottle they bought, Trappey’s Hot Sauce Ghost Pepper. Albert went and asked where to buy it and they told us the Whole Foods next door. We went and couldn’t find it. I couldn’t find it online either so either they don’t sell it anymore or they just don’t want us to have any of our own.

Pacific Coast Tacos | Sugar Land, Texas | Grilled Fish, Fried Fish, Korean Beef, Bang Bang Shrimp, and PCT Originals

Grilled Fish [mango pineapple pico, purple cabbage, creamy jalapeno cilantro sauce] • Fried Fish [mixed cabbage, laguna sauce, chili sauce, cilantro] • Korean Beef [napa cabbage, cilantro, sliced radish, scallion, citrus soy, chili sauce] • Bang Bang Shrimp [tossed in PCT Bang-Bang sweet heat chili sauce, mixed cabbage, radish] • PCT Originals Killer Fries [cripsy twice fried Kennebec fries with house seasonings]

I can say with confidence that this place is better than Torchy’s Tacos. Go try it out. You will not be disappointed. My favourite was the Bang-Bang Shrimp. I’ve told Scruffy that if Jarro Cafe is too far away this will be our taco place. It’s THAT good.

2018 | 080/365 | Home Chef | Steak Au Poivre, Beef & Pepper Tamale Pie

[2018] 080/365:

Before we left our Home Chef delivery arrived. I’m so excited. I’ve always wanted to try one of these boxes type meals. We were in a rush so I wasn’t able to see their packaging fully until after lunch. We opted for the Steak Au Poivre and the Beef & Pepper Tamale Pie. I loved that the meats were at the bottom with some ice packs and divided where the rest of the ingredients were. Even those were packaged individually per meal. They had three ice packs total which can be reused, how amazing!

Home Chef Insulation

And look at their insulation system. I’m pretty sure it’s just a lot of recycled cloths but it’s so simple and smart.

We cannot wait to see how everything tastes!

Churchill's Sports Bar & Grill | Sugar Land, Texas

We met Saleh and Lacey at Churchill’s Sports Bar & Grill.

Churchill's Sports Bar & Grill | Sugar Land, Texas | Beer, Whiskey and Sprite

We threw back a few and had some stimulating conversations. It’s been a while since I’ve had those since I’m home all the time nowadays.

Churchill's Sports Bar & Grill | Sugar Land, Texas | Scruffy Playing Pool

The boys played a round of pool before we called it quits.

Salah's Chili

We all headed to Saleh’s house where Salah was making his chili. We laid it on a bed of Fritos and sprinkled on cheese, sour cream, and jalapenos. Though it isn’t as spicy as Scruffy’s chili, it was equally delicious. Salah even made an eggplant concoction and I was surprised Scruffy liked it!

We stopped by Andrew’s for a hang out session and are now getting ready to watch Scrubs or Game of Thrones, or whatever our hearts desire. The night is young …. right?

Door Dash To The Rescue

March 18, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 | 077/365 | Escalante's Door Dash

[2018] 077/365: A Tex-Mex Lunch

It’s been a lazy day but let’s be real, it’s been a lazy month! We’ve just been watching telly and stuffing our face. We ordered Escalante’s off Door Dash with our $20 credit. It was pretty nice having everything separated so that nothing got soggy but was also annoying having to put everything together.

Back to more telly. Goodnight y’all!
