2015 Asia Trip | Day 4

November 1, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Breakfast Hong Kong

We went to breakfast bright and early. We had to sit at different tables since we had ten people today. I ordered macaroni with shredded ham and abalone, eggs, and bread with a drink of hot milk tea. Yum! … I can never get tired of this … unless maybe if I was living here.

Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car Hong Kong

After breakfast we made our way to Ngong Ping 360, the cable cars, to get to the top where the giant Buddha was. 360 because it means that the floor was glass so we could see the bottom where people were hiking to see the Buddha while we rode the car. The ride there was pretty fun, mostly because Tammy is afraid of heights. We took some silly pictures on the way up as we jumped and moved around a lot.

Buddha Ngong Ping - Hong Kong

After a good ride later, we made it to the other side and made our way up a lot a lot a lot of stairs to the top where the Buddha resides. By the time we got to the top, it was super breezing and many had to take their jackets out. We took a bunch of pictures with the gorgeous view (one of many shown).

Vegetarian Meal - Hong Kong Buddha Ngong Ping

We made our way down and had a vegetarian lunch at the temple which was perfect since Sissy is vegetarian. The food was 100 times better than yesterday’s but also as expensive if not more.

Squat Toilet Hong Kong Ngong Ping

After dinner I needed to pop a squat … literally. The toilets were literally squatters! I actually like squatting more than the porcelain throne. Weird, huh? I want to put one in when I have a home! haha

Ngong Ping Hong Kong Incense

Tammy and B went to burn incense since she somewhat believes in it. That’s just some random dude I took a picture of as he said his prayers. They took forever since you could only buy it in batches of incense here so we all did one together? … hopefully that’s okay.

Look how big of an incense you can buy! …

Turtle Ngong PIng Hong Kong Buddha

I inserted some money into the turtle. I’m not 100% sure why. Maybe for wealth or health? and we are to bribe him?

We went and bought souvenirs as we made our way back to the cable cars to ride back. On the ride back, the car was a little tilted and swung a little due to the heavy wind. It was super freezing by then that I had to put my jacket and hat on.

McDonald's Ice Cream Hong Kong

Rachel bought me an ice cream cone from McDonald’s. I will say that this one is way smoother and doesn’t have a bite to it when I take a bite. And she told me it’s made out of olvaltine! Kind of like a chocolate milk powder before the water …

Dogs Cow Ngong Ping Hong Kong Buddha

There were many stray dogs/cows. They aren’t owned by anyone but are super friendly and sleep everywhere. One of them stopped and tried to steal people’s food who were just sitting there. Poor animals. The cow ate someone’s bread along with the bag that was in it. The owner of their food didn’t care as the cow swallowed it whole. Hopefully he’ll be able to poop it out safely.

Bitter Tea - Hong Kong

After Ngong Ping, we went to buy souvenirs if we found anything. We stopped by a shop to buy biter tea though this is actually way sweeter than I thought. These types of teas are suppose to help your throat or body? … My throat has been a little funky since last night. Not too positive it works though.

Hot Pot Hong Kong

We had a hot pot dinner and Dad went crazy and ordered so much food. We had already thrown things in there and ate it and thrown more things in there … yet we still had too much. We took the uncooked to PoPo for her to make.

After this, we all went back to our abode and everyone, as always, is knocked out. Our legs feel like jelly but it felt nice to feel the burn. Hopefully by the end of the trip I lose weight instead of gain since we’ve been eating so much food!

2015 Asia Trip | Day 3

October 31, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Maxim's Palace - Dim Sum - Hong Kong

We woke up bright and early, went and met up with Wilson and his wife at their metro stop to go meet Mum’s side of the family for breakfast of Dim Sum at Maxim’s Palace. In a way to celebrate Sissy’s birthday with PoPo since she wasn’t going to be doing anything else with us the rest of the day.

Sissy Birthday Cake

Rachel and Vincent bought Sissy’s birthday cake. In my opinion, cake here tastes way better than cake in the US. If you ever have a chance to try Maxim Cakes in Hong Kong, you should definitely take it. It’s different good.

Stanley Hong Kong

We said our farewells to PoPo and made our way to Stanley which is a little area by the water. Not too sure what it is exactly, but you ride a bus up there and walk around. We did some souvenir shopping while we were there. So many little boats.

McDonald's Hong Kong

We also stopped by McDonald’s since B was thirsty … and hungry. I got a Sparkling Lychee Tea which was too sweet for my taste so I gave it to Mum. And there was a buy one get one free pumpkin pie a-la-mode. I shared with Sissy. Mmmm …

rachel-gift-japan

Rachel gave me a gift when we met up today and I finally got to open it. They’re cute little things she got from Japan. The Fun Fungi thing are mushroom magnets … wtf … so cool. haha She gave me a few of each little snack which I’m thinking of eating on the plane ride to Thailand.

We left Stanley by mini bus and we had dinner reservations at the top of the mountain (Victoria Peak) for Sissy’s birthday. After realizing it would take forever and a day to ride by tram since there were so many people already waiting in line, we decided to take a taxi. Three to be exact. Drama ensued since this one lady was being a little biyah and tried to cut in front of us. So rude.

Victoria Peak Hong Kong Observation Deck Ticket

We went and took pictures of the skyline before the sun set then bought tickets to the observation deck. By that time it was dark and you can see all the lights from the buildings. So gorgeous. We took a big group photo by the professional and bought one as a souvenir.

Day and Night Skyline Victoria Peak Hong Kong

The day and night views. Love how great these pictures came out on my camera!! So pretty!!!!

Tien Yi Chinese Restaurant Victoria Peak Hong Kong

Our dinner reservations at Tien Yi Chinese Restaurant. People mainly go and eat on the mountain top for the view. Sadly, since we had so many people, we didn’t get that view and the food wasn’t amazing at all. It was super overpriced. But I guess at least now I can say I ate at the top of the mountain in Hong Kong … We had pretty much two of each dish which is a crazy amount yet we practically finished it all.

Victoria Peak Tram Hong Kong

We waited for the tram to go back down. During the ride, it felt like everything was tilted, slanted. It was a pretty cool experience.

Halloween Hong Kong

We said goodbye to the older folks and made our way to the Halloween festivities. Except there were way too many people that it would have taken us forever to walk to the street that is equivalent to Austin, Texas’ 6th Street. It was literally on the street parallel to us but we decided to ride the metro back to our abode and go another day.

A lot of walking was involved today but it felt nice walking off and sweating because it makes me think that I’m losing weight ….even though we stuff our faces every two seconds.

Never know how to end these posts so let’s just say goodbye for now. haha

2015 Asia Trip | Day 2

October 30, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Cafe de Coral - Hong Kong - Breakfast

B went with the parents and Kathy to get his ID issuance. Sissy, BIL, SIL, and I went off on our own for breakfast. It looks horrible, I know. But I promise it tasted way better than the looks. Here, they’re more about getting people in and out. This is how simple a breakfast is and sometimes I miss this. Nothing too fancy, but so satisfying. I guess you can say this is one of my comfort foods.

Hong Kong Streets Morning

Afterward we walked all around while looking for a drugstore or supermarket to buy random things. It was still early so there weren’t many people on the street. Which meant we could see so much more of everything. It was nice being able to take it all in.

Hong Kong Country Club Lunch

We went back to our place to drop off our stuff and got ready. We rode the metro again to Central to meet up with our parents and B. We walked a bit around the mall then headed across the street to meet Dad’s cousin and wife and two daughters for lunch. This was equivalent to a US’s country club. There was too much food and it just kept coming.

Longest Tallest Escalator Travelator - Hong Kong

Afterward, they took us to the longest/highest travelator/escalator in the world. And it’s outdoors!! This goes up to the top of the mountain. A travelator is kind of like those fast walking things you find at the airport. In the mornings they go down so the residents can use it to go to work and whatnot and once it hits a certain time, they go up. If you want to go the opposite direction you would have to actually walk the stairs or take a bus/car ride. Freaking crazy right?

Bidet Bathroom - Hong Kong

Dad’s cousin’s family lives at the top of the mountain so he invited us into his home. He has a bidet and a telly in his master restroom. WTF … too fancy.

Victoria Peak Hong Kong Morning

He took us in his van up to part of Victoria Peak. This is what the view looks like in the morning. Super gorgeous and the breeze felt nice. He then dropped us off at the metro afterward and we headed back to our abode where we freshened up and the rest took naps.Metro Boy - Hong Kong

On the metro back, this kid comes in holding his fan while watching something on his phone. He had would occasionally rest on my arm … how awkward. When we jerked from starts and stops I would accidentally whack him in the face. I really thought I’d break his glasses. Um … who does that? So freaking weird.

Taiwan Sweets

We met up with Wilson and his wife at their hotel where we caught up a bit and figured out where to eat. This is a box of goodies he brought us from Taiwan. Mmmm …

Hong Kong Dinner

Dad took us in circles trying to find this one restaurant. After walking over 3 miles, we took his leadership away and decided on a different restaurant. Again … more food. Gah … Can’t even handle it. Dad’s cousin and wife also met up for dinner with us. After a while of just sitting and eating, we were tired so the kids got up and left. We went back to the abode and waited on Vincent and Rachel.

Next Station Dessert - Hong Kong

They all wanted desset so we headed to Next Station Dessert. There was a rule there where every single person had to either order a dessert or a drink. So … we all overloaded on sugar.

  • Black Pepper Molten Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Hot Latte
  • Mango Smoothie
  • Green Tea Molten Cake with Pink Lady Yoghurt Ice Cream
  • Green Tea Foam (red bean panna cotta, strawberry jelly, wheat germ meringue, and green tea ice cream)
  • Mango Waffle with Pink Lady Yoghurt Ice Cream
  • Purple Sweet Potato Waffle with Vanilla Ice Cream

We then made plans for tomorrow … Sissy’s birthday!! Time for bed so I can get ready for a SUPER long day of walking tomorrow. Bye!

2015 Asia Trip | Day 1

October 29, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Hello from the other side of the world! We finally made it after so many freaking hours. I’m too lazy to figure out how many hours it really took. Plus I’m not too sure how to transition the hours to make it line up to where I am now but … let’s start from the beginning. ((Note: The “<<>>” are for me to remember to put up pictures. It’s super late right now over here.))

Asia 2015 | Monkey Boarding Pass

Tuesday, October 27th, we left the house around 7pm and hung out at Sissy and BIL’s for a bit before heading to the airport. Surprisingly the wait wasn’t as long as I thought. Soon enough we were on the aircraft and our liftoff was on time on Wednesday, October 28th at 12:55am. If you’ve never been on a super long plane ride, you might not know about the little screens for each individual. I started the Ted 2 movie since one of my co-workers said it was funny and much better than the first one.

Asia 2015 | Eva Airlines Meal 1

Not even an hour on-board (1:45am) we were fed our first meal. Sissy had her special vegetarian order while BIL and I got to chose between chicken or beef. We opted for the beef which turned out to be beef stroganoff with carrots and peas, dinner roll, salad, fruit, and red velvet cake. I asked Sissy why she wasn’t watching her movie while eating and her response was that she wouldn’t be able to concentrate on both at the same time … wow. Haha … it made me laugh because … wow. Ted 2 wasn’t too horrible, but it wasn’t that amazing either. Definitely better than the first one though.

Asia 2015 | Eva Airline Snack

At 8am we were fed a snack of roast beef and provolone on ciabatta bread. I only liked the provolone and tried eating some of the roast beef. No bread for me since I just felt I was carb loading … I shouldn’t complain though because it was definitely much better than Sissy’s grilled onion, zucchini, something sandwich. BLEUGH. During this time I started the movie Trainwreck which I end up loving. It was cute and the girl reminded me of myself at times. I was surprised John Cena was in it. Mmm … <3. I agree with what he said about how why date someone or start anything with someone if you don’t intend to be something more in the future because “we aren’t in high school anymore” in which she replies, ” I didn’t know we were exclusive”. Ugh.

If you know me well enough, you would know I make 11:11 wishes. Oh … and I have to touch it. Haha that always creeps people out. But I was able to make my wish. Then I finally went on my pee break at 11:13am. I started watching Workaholics which I downloaded to my IPad through Amazon Prime. I wish I was able to download all the seasons. Darn Amazon limitations.

Asia 2015 | Eva Airlines Meal 2

We were served another meal at 2:08pm. BIL chose the scrambled egg, sausage, potato combo while I opted for the pork and thousand year old egg congee with fish floss, mantu (Asian type bread), fruit, celery and soy something slices. It felt like all we were doing was eating, sleeping, and watching telly. I’m pretty sure we were gaining weight and bloating up. Grossss. I was able to finish the movie Vacation which I also ended up loving.

Asia 2015 | Taipei Taiwan Layover

We finally landed in Taipei at 5:30am on Thursday, October 29th. This is where the time difference has begun. Our four hour layover became a five hour layover since we arrived an hour early. We walked around for a good while to stretch our legs and decided to eat … again since we wouldn’t be served anymore food and it would be a good few hours before we would get to eat when we arrived in Hong Kong. We took our potty breaks and headed to Hommee Kitchen.

Asia 2015 | Hommee Kitchen Taipei Taiwan

I ordered the Shredded Pork + Pork Chop with Rice that came with daily soup and side dishes. For the drink, I ordered Tapioca Milk Tea. Too much food. Thank goodness for BIL in helping me even though … he really didn’t. We were yet full and unable to breathe. We went and freshened up and headed to our gate. After a little while we find out our flight was delayed due to technical difficulties. So our four hour layover became a five hour layover to a delayed 7 hour layover. JOY!

Asia 2015 | Eva Airlines Meal Voucher

They gave us a voucher of NT.250 for lunch. Ugh … but we just ate … with our own money! So … we ate again. Yes, I know. We’re gaining weight. I get it. Don’t need to tell us that. But what else were we going to do with it? Can’t let the money go to waste.

Asia 2015 | Mos Burger Taipei Airlines

We walked to MOS Burger where I ordered the Japanese Fried Chicken, french fries, Toffee Nut Latte, and Hot Matcha Cappuccino. Thank goodness for Sissy and BIL in helping me eat the chicken and fries. I chugged my Hot Matcha Cappuccino and gave the Toffee Nut Latte to Sissy.

Asia 2015 | Mellie Dee Full Taipei Taiwan

Example of how I looked after our five billionth meal. I’m nasty looking since we were in recycled air for so many hours. After that meal we couldn’t breathe. We were stuffed to the brim and I was dehydrated. If you knew me personally and spend enough time with me, you’ll know I drink copious amounts of water and only water 98% of the time; so I was dying. We walked around again and I was certain my food sweats were beginning (gross, I know) and headed back to our gate to find out that it would be a little while longer.

Asia 2015 | Eva Airlines Meal 3

We finally boarded our flight at 12:45pm and lifted off at 1:35pm due to so many planes needing to take off as well. And once again we were fed which was news to us. It was some kind of Asian chicken with Rice and a side of nut mix. The smell of the food made me want to throw up. And when I told Sissy and BIL I had never been this full in my life, BIL’s response was, “It’s like a never ending buffet”. True but at least at a buffet, you get to walk around to get your food.

Asia 2015 | Hong Kong Landing

We finally landed at 2:53pm and got through customs pretty quickly along with getting our luggage. Mum and Kathy were waitng for us at the gate. After getting our Octopus cards filled (for transportation), we went on a bus and headed to our little abode for the week.

During the ride, I got a little sad. I found out I wouldn’t be seeing my little cousin (at least that’s what I was told). He was one of the ones who picked me up from the airport back in 2012 and the whole ride to the home, he and I talked trying to get to know one another. It’s sad to think he won’t be here for the memories.

When we got to the abode, we all relaxed for a bit and went to PoPo’s place by Metro then another bus where she pretty much couldn’t stop hugging any one of us. She told me I looked burned (like by heat), which is apparently for I lost a lot of weight since the last time I saw her.

Asia 2015 | Hong Kong Meal 1

We went off to dinner and laughed and joked so much. It just felt nice having everyone together for the first time and getting to see the family we only see once in a blue moon. After dinner, we went back to PoPo’s place where we picked some watches Kathy had for us to take home. I think I finally own a grown up watch. Eeek. Not too sure when I’ll ever wear it though.

Afterward, we headed back to our abode, showered, and everyone is currently knocked out as I type this out. Time for me to follow suit! Bye!

2015 Asia Trip | Liftoff

October 28, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Ni Hao! haha I’m currently flying halfway around the world to Hong Kong. Our flight is set to a little before 1am, which many think is crazy. Maybe so, but it’s cheaper. This also means I’ve been on the plane for a good few hours now and my butt is probably numb from all the sitting. And since I’m one of those weirdos that liked the plane meals on my last Asia trip, I’m probably happily stuffing my face right now.

The last time I was in Hong Kong was with Mum for almost an entire month in which we made a pit stop to Taiwan to visit my cousin and his wife. This time, they will be meeting us in Hong Kong. We don’t have everything planned out other than a pit stop in Thailand but I don’t mind it. I’m looking forward to seeing my family again and showing BIL and SIL our world. Maybe one day my significant other can experience where I came from and the lifestyle of stuffing his face with gross foods I love.

Cannot wait to be home. See you soon.
