2019 Marble Falls | Day 1

May 17, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Scruffy and I had talked about going somewhere international for my 30th and it obviously wasn’t happening so Patricia and I were going to go to New York and visit our friend instead. After seeing the prices we decided to postpone that to a later date. I was actually secretly planning a trip for him and I to Marble Falls and it’s surrounding places before we broke up so Patricia and I decided to go instead. I tweaked some of the plans to fit her instead of him and we’ve had a pretty grand day.

After a three hour drive I met her at the hotel and since we were too early, we decided to continue on with our plans and check in later.

Sweet Berry Farm | Marble Falls, Texas

Sweet Berry Farms was first on my list and I was surprised at how many people, especially children were out there. I guess there was a field trip or something.

I have always wanted to go to a farm and pick pumpkins, strawberries, apples, peaches, it didn’t matter. So I was super excited I finally got to do this and that mother nature was nice to us.

We began our strawberry picking adventure. There were so many to choose from but my favourites are the smaller ones. Some areas of the terrain were muddy and some strawberries were rotten but overall I can finally check something off my list. Patricia even got to enjoy a nice, cold strawberry popsicle.

I guess you could say we did a pretty dang good job. So many bright red deliciousness waiting for us!

Blue Bonnet Cafe | Marble Falls, Texas

We headed to Blue Bonnet Cafe afterward for their famous pie. There was a line out the door!

Blue Bonnet Cafe | Marble Falls, Texas | German Chocolate and Coconut Cream Pies

I opted for the waitress’s favourite, German Chocolate Pie while Patricia ordered the Coconut Cream Pie. Patricia told the waitress it was for my birthday and she was nice enough to put in a candle but didn’t have a lighter. How do I make a wish, lady?!

Overall, the pie was okay. It was way too sweet which is a given. But it’s definitely not something I’d stop by to get. House of Pies or Proud Pie is still a winner in my book.

Noon Spoon Cafe | Marble Falls, Texas

Since Patricia was hungry we went to Noon Spoon Cafe.

Noon Spoon Cafe | Marble Falls, Texas | Tomato Basil Soup and Club Sandwich

She got a soup and half a sandwich combo while I chose the tomato basil soup only. I’ve been craving soup so it was perfect.

2019 Birthday Present from Patricia

We finally checked into our hotel and I opened the present Patricia got me. I’m excited to try all the new makeup!! Thank you!!

The Real New Orleans Style Restaurant | Marble Falls, Texas

We relaxed a bit at the hotel before going to an early dinner at The Real New Orleans Style Restaurant. Boiled crawfish?! Do you think we ordered that?

The Real New Orleans Style Restaurant | Marble Falls, Texas | Dinner

Because we did. Obviously. Along with boiled shrimp. It was spiced Cajun style. The flavouring was perfect but they could do better with their cooking time as it was overcooked.

We also got a cup of gumbo, green beans, crawfish mac and cheese, and French fries. The best thing was the crawfish mac and cheese. I’d come back just for that!

Showbiz Cinemas | Marble Falls, Texas

It’s been a long while since I’ve gone to the theater and we had decided to watch a movie together in the past since we rarely get to. Thankfully there was Showbiz Cinemas nearby and we got to check that off our friendship list.

Showbiz Cinemas | Marble Falls, Texas | Pokeman Detective Pikachu

We chose Pokemon Detective Pikachu because the nerd in me just had to see it. We ordered the tiniest box meal along with a giant water for me.

The movie was better than I expected and I was thrilled when I saw Snorlax on the big screen even though it was in passing. He was hairy, which makes him much more cuddly than ever. I do hope they make another one.

We have a relaxing day planned for tomorrow but it’s also supposed to rain so we’ll have to see how it plays out. Luckily I have my rain boots and rain jacket just in case!

Proud Pie Bingo Night | Katy, Texas

Proud Pie Bingo Night | Katy, Texas Mellie Dee & Mallory

Mallory and I have been eyeing this place and have been waiting for their first Bingo Night since December! We were super excited it was finally here yesterday and invited Janna and Madison to join us.

Every five dollar spent equals four bingo cards. I ended up with twelve cards and won … nothing. None of us won anything. We’ve failed but had a lot of fun doing so.

Proud Pie | Katy, Texas | Hazelnut Cafe Mocha

Large Hazelnut Cafe Mocha | $4.50

Super sweet and lost points since it’sin a coffee cup and not in a mug like how I like my coffees. Might try their teas next time.

Proud Pie | Katy, Texas | Tuscan Clucker

The Tuscan Clucker [grilled pesto chicken with roasted red peppers, goat cheese, fresh pesto on cheese focaccia roll] | $6.90

I wanted to trade out the goat cheese but they only had American cheese? so I kept what it was. I thought I wouldn’t like the cheese but it went really well with everything. I would definitely come back just for this sandwich. Pesto has not failed me yet.

Proud Pie | Katy, Texas

Miss Daisy’s Rich Fudge

Too rich for all of us but Madison. She really enjoyed it. Or maybe because her daughter is also named Daisy? haha She got ice cream on the side which was extra and they even warmed it up for her. She said it paired really well.

Wobbly Turtle Caramel Heath Chocolate Silk [Ghirardelli chocolate silk mousse with layers of crunchy heath bar and sweet fresh butter caramel, topped with sweet cream]

Again too sweet for my taste but having the little Heath bar pieces in there gave it some texture other than just mush. This was one that took us all a while to finish because it was just too much.

Pierhouse Key Lime [from the Pier house resort in the Florida Keys, tart and sweet creamy lime pie]

Most of our favourites. I was going to buy one for a friend but they were sold out. Sad. Will have to come back for this because it’s very delicious.

Blueberry Lemon Chess [layer of buttermilk lemon chess custard topped with fresh blueberries]

Not the same as what the picture was. We thought the blueberries were with the pie but they had it separate which I was not a fan of.

Overall, a cute little place. I want to go back and take my laptop to blog. They have a point system to where you scan the receipt and collect points. After so many points you can get five dollars, ten dollars, etc. off. I’m almost close to five dollars off since we put them all together.

Cannot wait to go back and possibly try something new. Craving the pesto sandwich right now though … fattie over here.

Recipe | Apple Crumbled Pie

June 14, 2011 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

I had a leftover pie shell from the Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie I made last time so I thought it’ll be perfect to use it with the girls before I left school for the summer. Since I had some apples, Apple Crumbled Pie seemed like the safest bet.

Apple Crumbled Pie

Apple Crumbled Pie

Ingredients:

     Pie:

  • 1 unbaked pie shell, 9-inch
  • 6 cups peeled apple slices
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp salt

     Topping:

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Preparation:

  1. Fill pie shell with apple slices. Combine granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt; sprinkle over apples.
  2. Combine topping ingredients until crumbly; sprinkle over top of pie. Bake at 400° for 45-50 minutes, until apples are tender and topping is browned.

Again, no walnuts or pecans were added since someone was allergic. It came out really juicy and everyone loved it!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie | Before

Before Picture of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie

On the 26th of March, some of the FSA Families got together for pictures and decided to do a potluck. Everyone wanted cookies so I figure they wouldn’t mind a new take on it.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 unbaked pie crust, homemade or store bought
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter softened (1 1/2 sticks)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup pecans or walnuts (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Beat eggs in a large mixer until foamy. Add in flour and sugars. Beat until well blended.
  2. Beat in softened butter. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. (I didn’t put in nuts since I had friends that were allergic.) Stir.
  3. Pour into pie crust (thawed). Bake at 325°F for about 50-55 minutes. Let cool before eating.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie | After

After Picture of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie

Mine came out a little undone in the middle but a lot of people reminded me that pies are that way in the middle and they gobbled it up regardless.
