2018 San Antonio Trip for Our 2nd Dating Anniversary | Day 1

April 6, 2018 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

2018 San Antonio Trip | Mickey D’s Breakfast

Once Scruffy came over we packed up the car and went on our merry way to San Antonio stopping at Mickey D’s for breakfast.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Scratch Off Tickets

As he drove I used his lucky penny and scratched off lottery tickets he got me. Sadly the only luck it gave us was a five dollar return. I guess it’s better than nothing.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Barriba Cantina | San Antonio, Texas

We walked around the Riverwalk and stopped at Barriba Cantina.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Barriba Cantina | San Antonio, Texas | Margaritas

It’s always been a dream of mine to stop and sit on the balcony of a restaurant on the Riverwalk, order a drink and just chill. I was able to fill that dream today and it was pretty nice.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Barriba Cantina | San Antonio, Texas | Guacamole

The only thing we hated was how they made it sound like we were getting chips and dip for free and they ended up being $10. That’s how they get you. Horrible people. Also, what Mexican place not give free chips and dip. LAME RIVERWALK PLACES I GUESS!

2018 San Antonio Trip | La Villita | San Antonio, Texas

I’ve always wanted to stop at La Villita and walk around and we somehow ended up walking past it.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Plaza Taxco | San Antonio, Texas

I was able to stop at a couple of shops like Plaza Taxco who sells sterling silver jewelry from Taxco.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Bes Arte | San Antonio, Texas

And Besarte who sells random jewelry, arts, and the such.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Total Wine | San Antonio, Texas

We stopped by Total Wine to grab some goodies before heading to the hotel to check in early.

2018 San Antonio Trip | La Quinta | San Antonio, Texas | Anniversary Present and Suite

Scruffy called La Quinta Inn & Suites San Antonio Airport earlier in the week and told them it was our 2nd Anniversary and they upgraded us to a suite and gave us a goodie bag. Is it bad that we didn’t correct them when they thought it was our wedding anniversary?

2018 San Antonio Trip | Scruffy Brought Champagne

Scruffy called hoping to purchase some champagne deal but they didn’t have one so he bought a tiny one from Houston and surprised me with it! Cutest thing.

2018 San Antonio Trip | The Hoppy Monk | San Antonio, Texas

I took a nap while he watched telly then we got ready and headed to The Hoppy Monk.

2018 San Antonio Trip | The Hoppy Monk | San Antonio, Texas | Brussels Sprouts

Brussel Sprouts [salsa macha, apple, agave syrup, roasted almonds] | $8

When it comes to drink places I usually sit while he drinks. But we were both surprised when we found the brussels sprouts and it quickly became our favourite to the point where we ordered a second. That’s how good it was! If you ever come to this place you definitely need to try this.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Smashin Crab | San Antonio, Texas | Scruffy

We went to the highlight of the night, the number one reason we came back (not really, but really), Smashin Crab. On our last trip to San Antonio we found this place and agreed to come back during crawfish season so here we are.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Smashin Crab | San Antonio, Texas | Bud Light

I took this picture with the beer for the hedgehog hanging off so Jenny can see since she got it for me and it’s super cute.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Smashin Crab | San Antonio, Texas | Crawfish and Shrimp

Crawfish | $10/lb … Shrimp | $14/lb … Trinity Flavour and Level 3 and 4

We started with a pound of each, crawfish and shrimp, with level three trinity. The crawfish was way too small and over cooked for me to get more. Yes. This is coming from the crawfish queen. Instead we opted for two pounds of shrimp with level four trinity. Scruffy quickly regretted it and agreed we should have stuck with level three. Haha

[2018] 096/365: Silly Photoshoots With My Love

These silly picture sessions are my favourite. It shows our goofy side for sure. So much laughter every time. This picture makes me laugh so much.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Scruffy and Mellie Dee Photoshoot

Overall it’s been an amazing trip and he’s gone above and beyond to make it special. Thanks, my love. I’m forever grateful especially while I’m typing this and you’re getting ignored for a couple hours but I mean, someone did forget the laptop cable making this post harder to achieve.

I’ll add the links to these place so when I get back home. Til then, night!

2nd Anniversary Presents

March 30, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Jarro Truck | Tacos

Jarro Cafe lunch with the love after he dropped Luna off at my house. We’ve missed this truck so much now that we both don’t work by. Best tacos in town if you haven’t been!

2018 | 089/365 | Scruffy's 2nd Anniversary Present

[2018] 089/365: 2nd Anniversary

Scruffy and I decided to open our two year anniversary presents. I love how the wrapping paper kind in away goes with Panda. Thoughtful. <3

Scruffy's 2nd Anniversary Present Contents

I’m excited for my scratch offs. He taped a penny he found to the card. He found it after he bought the scratch offs so he believes it’s the winning penny.

2nd Anniversary Present The Five Senses

I decided to go the five senses route.

2nd Anniversary Present The Five Senses Contents

And it was a hit! He didn’t even know Rebelution’s newest cd was on pre-sale so he was super surprised.

Crawfish Boil

We went to Yassin’s for a crawfish boil. They know how to host a boil. Over 160 pounds for about 25 people … and that’s without counting the corn, potatoes, Brussels sprouts, sausage, and onions.

Crawfish Boil | Bella

They also had the cutest lab named Bella. I wanted to trade her for Luna but no one wanted to take her. Haha I’m joking though cuz I can never trade Luna.

Pot of Crawfish

Look how big their pot was!!

Garlic Butter Concoction for Crawfish Boil

His uncle made his own garlic butter concoction that was a hot. A bit on the salty side for me but not bad!

We stayed out late and partied with his crazy friends before heading back home to chill with my parents for a bit.

I’m ready to for bed. Good night y’all!

Busy Body

March 21, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I had so much human interaction today, I felt like a busy body. Literally drained from it all but it was fun!

Pacific Coast Tacos | Sugar Land, Texas

This morning started with me cleaning the skimmer (pool filter) and Scruffy getting a call from his friend, Albert. He was in town and wanted to see if we were free for lunch so we headed to Scruffy’s recommendation of Pacific Coast Tacos.

Pacific Coast Tacos | Sugar Land, Texas | Salsa Bar

How cute is this Salsa Bar?! I made Scruffy get one of each so I could try it all. Habanero and Roasted Tomatillo was my favourite. Scruffy loved the Tomatillo. The real winner though was none of the above. It was from a bottle they bought, Trappey’s Hot Sauce Ghost Pepper. Albert went and asked where to buy it and they told us the Whole Foods next door. We went and couldn’t find it. I couldn’t find it online either so either they don’t sell it anymore or they just don’t want us to have any of our own.

Pacific Coast Tacos | Sugar Land, Texas | Grilled Fish, Fried Fish, Korean Beef, Bang Bang Shrimp, and PCT Originals

Grilled Fish [mango pineapple pico, purple cabbage, creamy jalapeno cilantro sauce] • Fried Fish [mixed cabbage, laguna sauce, chili sauce, cilantro] • Korean Beef [napa cabbage, cilantro, sliced radish, scallion, citrus soy, chili sauce] • Bang Bang Shrimp [tossed in PCT Bang-Bang sweet heat chili sauce, mixed cabbage, radish] • PCT Originals Killer Fries [cripsy twice fried Kennebec fries with house seasonings]

I can say with confidence that this place is better than Torchy’s Tacos. Go try it out. You will not be disappointed. My favourite was the Bang-Bang Shrimp. I’ve told Scruffy that if Jarro Cafe is too far away this will be our taco place. It’s THAT good.

2018 | 080/365 | Home Chef | Steak Au Poivre, Beef & Pepper Tamale Pie

[2018] 080/365:

Before we left our Home Chef delivery arrived. I’m so excited. I’ve always wanted to try one of these boxes type meals. We were in a rush so I wasn’t able to see their packaging fully until after lunch. We opted for the Steak Au Poivre and the Beef & Pepper Tamale Pie. I loved that the meats were at the bottom with some ice packs and divided where the rest of the ingredients were. Even those were packaged individually per meal. They had three ice packs total which can be reused, how amazing!

Home Chef Insulation

And look at their insulation system. I’m pretty sure it’s just a lot of recycled cloths but it’s so simple and smart.

We cannot wait to see how everything tastes!

Churchill's Sports Bar & Grill | Sugar Land, Texas

We met Saleh and Lacey at Churchill’s Sports Bar & Grill.

Churchill's Sports Bar & Grill | Sugar Land, Texas | Beer, Whiskey and Sprite

We threw back a few and had some stimulating conversations. It’s been a while since I’ve had those since I’m home all the time nowadays.

Churchill's Sports Bar & Grill | Sugar Land, Texas | Scruffy Playing Pool

The boys played a round of pool before we called it quits.

Salah's Chili

We all headed to Saleh’s house where Salah was making his chili. We laid it on a bed of Fritos and sprinkled on cheese, sour cream, and jalapenos. Though it isn’t as spicy as Scruffy’s chili, it was equally delicious. Salah even made an eggplant concoction and I was surprised Scruffy liked it!

We stopped by Andrew’s for a hang out session and are now getting ready to watch Scrubs or Game of Thrones, or whatever our hearts desire. The night is young …. right?

Door Dash To The Rescue

March 18, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 | 077/365 | Escalante's Door Dash

[2018] 077/365: A Tex-Mex Lunch

It’s been a lazy day but let’s be real, it’s been a lazy month! We’ve just been watching telly and stuffing our face. We ordered Escalante’s off Door Dash with our $20 credit. It was pretty nice having everything separated so that nothing got soggy but was also annoying having to put everything together.

Back to more telly. Goodnight y’all!

Movies And Stuffing My Face Day

March 6, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Churrasco's | Sugar Land, Texas | Favor

Today has been movies, telly, and Churrasco’s to fill my day. Favor was having a free delivery day so I made use of it. They forgot my soup so I ended up getting $6 credit for next time. Score!

2018 | 065/365 | Dinner by Scruffy: Sweet Potato, Asparagus, Jalapeno-Pineapple Chicken Wrapped With Bacon

[2018] 065/365: Delicious Dinner by Scruffy

This is my idea of a great meal. Wishing for more of this coming in the near future since we have the whole house to ourselves for a few weeks. Eeep!
