Pho and Dessert Delivered Working at Home

Due to the water burst in East Houston we all got to work from home today. June didn’t have to work so she made plans with my parents for lunch and kindly brought something back for me!

Mellie Dee and Jacob Chilling

After work I ran some errands and headed over to Mallory’s. I had John’s early birthday present I wanted to give before I forgot but to also destress from such a shitty week at work. Jacob was nice enough to take a selfie with me. His eyes are so pretty. I love when he stares at me.

Habachi Dinner | Mallory

We ordered habachi dinners. Vegetarian for me, steak for Mallory and a whole bunch of fried rice for John. I always forget habachi has amazing fried rice! And they have one sauce that is to die for. Fits perfectly mixed with the rice.

Twistee Treat | Cypress, Texas | Mallory

Mallory, Jacob and I went for a sweet treat after dinner at Twistee Treat. Strawberry ice cream with a chocolate sprinkle waffle cone for me. A vanilla ice cream dipped in Cherry coating for Mallory. It is so dang simple yet so dang delicious. Their strawberry flavour doesn’t taste fake at all! This might be my new favourite ice cream place but it’s a little far.

When we got back I went with John and JJ to the clubhouse to battle Pokemons. They’re obsessed with the game and they’ve found others! So crazy. We won and I caught a Mewtwo so that’s cool.

Crumbl Cookies | Katy, Texas

Crumbl Cookies | Katy, Texas | Oreo, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Sugar Cookie with Almond Icing

Work was so crazy today that I had to cancel my lunch plans. Lunch plans that I rarely get to make. So when I get a text that Mallory picked up some cookies from the new bakery, Crumbl Cookies, my heart was happy.

She got Oreo, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, and Sugar Cookie with Almond Icing. I’m not sure what they are called but that’s how I’d describe it.

My favourite was the Oreo as there were little pieces inside. The chocolate chip was the worst in my opinion, a big let down. As for the peanut butter, if they put in chunks of Reese’s like they did in the Oreo, I think it would have been better. The almond icing on the sugar cookie was very overpowering but it wasn’t so bad.

Tiff Treats is still our number one favourite place but if we had to pick gourmet then I guess they could do.

Mellie Dee & Jacob

Jacob fared well in my hands. I gave him back before he started bawling again. JJ has liked me more ever since I read him bedtime stories. Or maybe he’s growing up and realized I’m amazing.

Mala Szechuan and Bing Sui | Katy, Texas

JJ & Emmy on the Trampoline

JJ and Emmy finally got to play together again! They got to jump on trampolines and make pretend foods and ride in the mini car. They even got to enjoy some Tiff’s I brought over. Sadly I left work an hour early and ended up working practically the entire time j was over. Luckily, SIL was able to join and meet Mallory so whenever Emmy needed something I could continue working.

Mala Szechuan | Katy, Texas | Brudda, SIL, Jenny, Le, Jennifer, Jimmy

Since the Dallas folks, Brudda, SIL, Jenny, and Le were in town, they made plans to meet up with Jennifer and Jimmy and I got asked to tag along. I’m always down for food so I agreed. Ethan came along as well. We went to Mala Szechuan for dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine and a great big number of dishes. Everythimg is always so delicious here. My favourite is the crispy chicken!

Bing Sui | Katy, Texas | Brudda, SIL, Jenny, Le, Jennifer, Jimmy

We decided to get dessert at Bing Sui. Somi Somi is still my favourite ice cream and takiyaki combo. Bing Sui gave out some stale takiyakis and the ice cream wasn’t as memorable as Somi Somi. They did like their shaved ice dessert though.

After we were all stuffed we all headed to Jennifer’s new practice. Her opening is tomorrow and it was nice to see it before the renovations. We were there for a while getting some free consultation for our eyes and joking about other things.

I’m so pooped now and ready to unwind and go to sleep. Night, world.

2020 Chinese New Year Lion Dance

January 26, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Sleeping at two in the morning I set my alarm for seven am so that I could check in to see if Mallory was still down to do lion dances with me. Actually, it was for me to do it with her. She called me out for never taking her in the years we’ve known one another.

Starbucks | Sous Vide Eggs

I stopped by Starbucks for a green tea latte and picked up a coffee for her as well. Since I had taken meds, I had to eat and picked up these eggs for the first time. It’s actually not bad, and similar to the egg cupcakes I use to make in college.

Karma Kolaches & Desserts | Katy, Texas | Mallory & JJ

The fatty in me couldn’t resist a Kolaches when we got to Karma Kolache and Desserts. This was were the lion dances were happening and JJ was super excited! He was also hopped up on his sugar from the donuts but stayed a sweet sweet boy. Mallory and I loved the kronut the best and hope to come back for more in the future.

Soon enough, the lions started dancing and JJ, afraid when they approached at first ended up loving them. He was brave enough to feed them dollar bills and was eaten by one in the last frame.

2020 Chinese New Year | JJ Chinese Jacket

We decided to go again to the HMart one so I followed them home and relaxed a bit before heading back out again, this time with John as well. We met up with Madison, Brandon, Daisy, Darby, and Danica. They were already chowing down on some egg waffles and ice cream so John ordered an ice cream and shared it with JJ.

I share this picture because JJ finally fits the Chinese Jacket I got him when he was born! He loved it and would have kept it on if it wasn’t so thick. Fail on my part for thinking it’d be cold during Chinese New Year. Come on, Melissa, we live in Texas.

This one was definitely more professional since they did some neat tricks and even have the guy in the mask. Not sure his name but his role is to trick the lions to come to him.

After we left and was heading to Mallory’s house, JJ kept asking if he could come over to my house. I guess I’m cool now. He probably associate lions to me now like he does with Trey and his motorcycle.

Poached Eggs

I made a delicious early dinner. First time I ever poached eggs and I’m proud with how they came out.

Cleaning is complete and I worked a good couple of hours and meal prepped. It’s been a very busy day but it’s all been worthwhile.

Day with Rose

December 7, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

  • Proud Pie | Katy, Texas | Mint Chocolate Chip Pie

I’m not going to lie. I really don’t remember what I did this morning up until Rose texted me that she was coming over to pick me up. We went and got lunch at Proud Pie.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been here and I was happy to see they had Mint Chocolate Chip Pie. It reminds me of the ice cream! So freaking good. Don’t let the two pies fool you. It’s actually one slice split in two!

The sandwiches are the same old same old. Nothing to write home about. If anything, my chicken pesto sandwich was a bit dry and wished they put more pesto in.

The drinks were good. Not super sweet which I liked. She wished it was sweeter.

We sat and talked for a long while until we went off to Michael’s to buy knitting tools for some folks. We’re starting a knitting/crocheting club at work. The majority of them do not know how so it’ll be interesting to see how it goes.

We then went to HomeGoods next door. One of my favourite places. It’s like TJ Maxx in my opinion … but fancier.

We were both able to get our White Elephant presents for work during this adventure and I snagged one as well for the one I’m going to next week. People told me bringing a cleaver to a White Elephant is weird. I guess I’ll keep it for myself!

2019 Work Holiday Party Ornament Idea

I’ve been working on designs for the work party. I’m not sure how people feel about them so I made examples with leftover vinyl I had. This is one of them. I will bring it to the planning team Monday and see what they think before we start cutting and applying it to the ornaments we got for the entire team. It’s going to be a lot of work but I’m glad I finally have a project I can do to use my Cricut.

The weekend is almost over. I cannot wait to do absolutely nothing.
