Baby Finn’s Baby Shower

October 19, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Mum, June and I woke up early to pick up Sissy and headed off to Dallas. I slept most of the way to rest my eyes. It was nice not having to drive all day!

Wu Wei Din | Plano, Texas

We left with Brudda, Emmy, and Sammi for lunch at Wu Wei Din. The Xiao long bao aren’t the very best but still one of the bests in Houston other than Wanna Bao.

QQ Teahouse | Plano, Texas

We went next door to QQ Teahouse And it ended up being one of the worst teahouses I’ve been too. That’s all I’m going to say on that.

Baby Finn's Surprise Baby Shower

Sissy and I went and picked up surprise things for baby Ethan. Brudda went to bed and SIL was still at work. SIL’s mum, Jenny, and Le showed up. It was successful!! Sissy made the teddy bear and I made the decorations for the cake. We all are and talked and had a grand time.

Bols | Plano, Texas

We were supposed to go to the State Fair but ended up against it. We went and got Bols for dinner with Jenny and Le. This place is definitely one of the best ramen places we’ve been to.

Fat Straws | Plano, Texas

We stopped by Fat Straws for another Team but mostly for their mochi donuts. We got the blueberry, strawberry, black sesame, and matcha. We’re saving that for tomorrow’s breakfast though.

We’re back at the house watching the rest of the Astros game. All on the edge of our seats!

Lasik Consultation + Gaining a Few Pounds

October 12, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Joffe Medicenter | Lasik Consultation

I took the plunge and went to my Lasik consultation this morning. I put in the max amount in my flexible spending account to force myself to get this procedure done before the year was over since you lose what you don’t spend.

I chose Joffe Medicenter because my coworker’s mentor went there with his wife a couple of years ago. And plus they had 5 star ratings on Google and Yelp so I assume it has to be pretty darn good.

My consultation went well and I passed all the tests. My procedure will be done next week. I’m scared but excited. It would suck if it failed in the end but I guess I’ll never know until I try. Wish me luck!

Pokeworks | Houston, Texas | Foodie Tasting

Tan invited me to a Foodie event at Pokeworks and I got to play around with the props along with the food we ordered. I was told I’m good at that which made me happy and sometimes makes me wonder if I’m in the wrong line of work.

Pokeworks | Houston, Texas | Foodie Tasting Simple

I like simpler pictures though and these made me happy enough. It’s currently soft opening but their grand opening, on October 19, 2019, will have the BOGO deal along with a chance to win an Apple Watch!

8550 South Main Street, Houston, Texas 77025

Flower & Cream Artisan Ice Cream | Houston, Texas

We then went and got dessert at Flower & Cream. I opted for Unicorn Tracks that tastes like Lucky Charms cereal, Caramel Apple Pie with real bits of apples in a Salted Blue Corn waffle cone. Everything was delicious though I would stick with just the Unicorn Tracks next time. I loved it more than I thought I would!

The Path of Tea | Houston, Texas

He suggested we go to The Path of Tea. I’ve been wanting to go here since forever and was happy I finally made it! So many different teas to chose from! I chose the Relaxation Blend. It had a bit of mint in it but it made me so relaxed I started getting sleepy … or maybe my food coma was kicking in. I ended up getting some to go for nights where I can’t unwind (every night).

I am stuffed. It’s crazy how Tan and I lost contact due to going to different colleges and from one response on Instagram we had our reunion and our life is just talks on relationships with guys and food. He says he’ll invite me to more events in the future so fingers crossed!

2019 Labour Day Weekend | Part 2

September 1, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2019 Labour Day Weekend | Breakfast of Leftovers

Sissy and BIL went and got Dunkin’ Donuts for breakfast for everyone. Brudda and I ate a random assortment of leftovers instead.

2019 Labour Day Weekend | Wi Wei Din Chinese Cuisine | Plano, Texas | Pork Ear, Spicy Wonton, Xiao Long Bao

A few hours later met up with Katie’s family at Wu Wei Din Chinese Cuisine. Pog ears, spicy shrimp and pork wontons, and Xiao Long Bao.

This is by far the best Xiao Long Bao I’ve had in Texas and was happy I got my fix. Still searching for the best in Texas though so if anyone has any suggestions, please share!

2019 Labour Day Weekend | TocoToco | Plano, Texas

We stopped and got boba tea. They have a jelly called crystal noodles and they’re much better than tapioca balls.

I love their decor as well. I thought the wall was little wooden balls but it’s made out of paper. What a cool idea!

2019 Labour Day Weekend | Rizzo and Pluto

We went home and all chilled. We watched some weird Chinese movie where a group of friends were helping one friend find breast milk to replace the one she accidentally gave to a client to drink. Some parts were hilarious but it wasn’t really worth the time spent.

2019 Labour Day Weekend | O.D. Wellness Massage and Reflexology

Soon enough Sissy, BIL, SIL, June and I left for reflexology massages at O.D. Wellness. They did a pretty good job in all. SIL went in her own room, Sissy and BIL in another while June and I had our own. They left the room a couple times totaling 6 minutes to get hot stones and hot towels. Overall good and relaxing.

2019 Labour Day Weekend | Pool Side Drinkin'

We went back to the house and chilled a bit. Everyone went to dinner with SIL’s parents while Sissy, BIL, Brudda and I went to the pool. We enjoyed a few rounds of passing a ball around and seeing who can swim fastest.

It’s pretty nice getting time with Brudda since he doesn’t live in Houston and we rarely get to see him. And when we do see him he’s always busy with Emmy and things around the house.

2019 Labour Day Weekend | Bols | Plano, Texas

We all went back and showered and enjoyed delivery from Bols. Japanese/Korean fusion. I have so much leftover for tomorrow.

All the kids are in the media room watching Spiderman Into the Verse while Sammi watches The Secret Life of Pets 2 on my iPad. Time to enjoy the rest of the movie. Night world!

2019 June’s Birthday | Chatime | Slurping Noodles | Katy, Texas

August 30, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

An early morning where I woke up to the sound of Emmy singing downstairs. We played with her for a long bit before putting her down for a nap. When she woke up, we went off to lunch.

We had places in mind and a plan to do so many things but time was limited since she is still use to two naps in one day. This kid fits right in with our family.

Chatime | Katy, Texas | Mango Smoothie
Mango Smoothie [regular] | $4.25

We ended up at Chatime since it wasn’t as crowded. Emmy is used to getting Mango Smoothies when she’s with her parents so we got her one. She seemed to enjoy it a lot and drank way more than we thought she would. Kid approved!

Slurping Noodles | Katy, Texas | Xiao Long Bao, "Karaagi" Japanese Style Popcorn Chicken, "Unagi Don" Grilled Eel Rice Bowl, Chicken Katsu Curry Rice Bowl
“Unagi Don” Grilled Eel Rice Bowl [sweet caramelized Unagi sauce drizzled over perfectly grilled eel, served with green onion, pickled ginger, broccoli and carrots] | $9.99 • “Karaagi” Japanese Style Popcorn Chicken [Japanese fried chicken with crisp texture in outside and super juicy and tender on the inside] | $5.95 • Chicken Katsu Curry Rice Bowl [Japanese curry rice bowl with panko chicken cutlet on top, served with green onion, pickled ginger, broccoli and carrots] | $8.99 • Xiao Long Bao [signature Chinese steamed soup pork dumplings] | $6.95

Chatime partnered with Slurping Noodles so we ordered food as well. The price isn’t bad especially with the amount of food they give you. Everything tasted great. But the rice bowls could use more sauce as it felt too dry for us overall.

Emmy loved the popcorn chicken and ate majority of it. June and I both loved the Xiao Long Baos the most. Compared to the place Salim and I went to last Saturday, these actually had soup in it so it’s on the top of my list in the Houston area. But if you compare it to Ding Tai Fung in Taiwan, it obviously doesn’t compare. I’m already wanting to go back for more soup dumplings. Who wants to join?

Chatime | Katy, Texas | Mosaic Floors

They also have super cute and calming decor and I fell in love with the mosaic tile floors.

Eight Turn Crepe | Katy, Texas | Emmy| Crepe Brulee & Harajuku Fruit Cocktail
Crepe Brulee [served Mon – Fri; fresh strawberries, creme brulee cream, crunchy flakes and caramelized toppings] | $7.99 • Harajuku Fruit Cocktail [fresh blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, mango, and banana, whipped yogurt, custard cream and sliced almonds | $8.96

We walked across for dessert. I’ve been here before with Mallory and Leah but have always said I’d come back to try their Crepe Brûlée since it’s only on work days. It was so worth it. I was surprised but the caramelized topping in bites as I made my way down the cone! Emmy ate all the fruit, mostly strawberries, out of both of ours. It’s safe to say this is a hit for any age group.

2019 June’s Birthday Cake

We got home and all relaxed and took naps. We ordered Thai Cottage for dinner to celebrate June’s birthday and had a lovely coffee mousse cake.

I spent a few hours with Emmy, cleaned part of my room, and have packed. I’m starting to donate my old clothes. I have stuff from middle school! How crazy!

Dumplings and Deep Conversations

August 24, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Golden Dumpling House | Houston, Texas

The day started off with a lot of playing with Emmy before heading to Golden Dumpling House to meet up with Salim. It’s been awhile and we figured a catch-up was needed.

Golden Dumpling House | Houston, Texas | Dumplings
Xiao Long Bao; Fried Pork & Vegetable Dumplings; Steamed Pork, Shrimp, & Vegetable Dumplings

I haven’t found a good place for Xiao Long Bao in Houston so we figured we’d try this place. The flavour was the best out of the other dumplings but it was lacking in soup which was the whole reason for them.

The dumplings, though not bad, aren’t the best I’ve had. They could do better with flavouring their dumplings and the wrapper was a little too thick.

We later found out they had free soup which is more like a congee with a different type of grain. I thought the flavour was good but Salim needed salt so to each their own.

7 Leaves Cafe | Houston, Texas | Oolong Milk Tea with Honey Boba and Taro Milk Tea
Oolong Milk Tea with Honey Boba and Taro Milk Tea

We went and got teas, both delicious. We sat here for a really long time talking about relationships and life. He told me I’m too nice so that’s probably why I’m single but I don’t understand how that’s a negative. I guess guys want someone who’s an ass like girls tend to like in a guy? I’m confused about it all but I’ve decided I’m in the wrong decade. I’m going to be single for life.

Afterward we said our goodbyes. I went home and hung out with Emmy a bit before we headed out to Bellaire again where we met up with SIL’s parents. We went and visited Grandma before heading back to Bellaire for dinner with everyone. Yeah, I don’t understand all the driving either. I’m pooped and ready to relax with Rizzo.
