Galentine’s Day with Juhi

2018 | 044/365 | Simple Kimchi Soup

[2018] 044/365: Simple Kimchi

I’ve been in love with making kimchi soup. Literally throw in some kimchi with some chicken broth, add ramen and protein and you’re done! Here I have deli meat and wontons. So freaking simple. So freaking delicious.

Starbucks and Kindle | Chai Spice Latte and Iced Lemon Pound Cake

I drove early to Juhi’s after picking up my last bits for Scruffy’s Valentine’s present. I grabbed a Venti Chia Spice Latte with Iced Lemon Pound Cake to sip and nibble on while reading my Kindle waiting for her to arrive. I am almost done with this book and I don’t want it to end!!

Chicken Dumplings at Juhi's

Juhi and I had Galentine’s where we just chilled with the Olympics. She made us some chicken dumplings which was surprisingly delicious. I need to tell my people to start doing chicken instead of pork!

Winter Is Coming!!!!

January 16, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Hahahaha Sorry about that. Scruffy and I have been binge watching Game of Thrones. We’re only on Season 3 – yeah, yeah we’re behind – so please, don’t ruin it for us!! Scruffy and I are cheering on Daenerys Targaryen cuz … dragons.

2018 | 016/365 | Starbucks and Snow

[2018] 016/365: Winter Is Coming To Houston

Everyone knows Houston weather is unpredictable. Yesterday was a very nice day where we were able to take Luna and Rizzo to the park. Today, the pups were walking on snowy ice! That picture is the windshield and hood of my car. I loveeeee this weather! It meant more time with Scruffy since he didn’t have to go in today.

Sakura Asian Bistro | Richmond, Texas | Sashimi Lunch

Sashimi Lunch [chef’s choice of assorted sliced fresh raw fish with Miso soup, salad, and fried rice] | $12.95

We met Andrew up for lunch. One of the only places opened, Sakura Asian Bistro. Scruffy and I shared this meal together since we weren’t too hungry. It wasn’t the very best but wasn’t horrible where we wouldn’t come back again.

Snowy Grass and Cowboy Boots

Next door was a Starbucks and Scruffy was nice enough to drive-thru and get me a nice, hot cup of Chai Tea Latte. And because of that, I was able to get that shot with the snow! #basicbiyah

I’m quite excited to see how tomorrow will be since schools are all canceled! Eeep! Probably more stores and restaurants will be closed and Scruffy will be stuck here forever. hehe

Back to snuggling up to my beau with the pups by our side as we continue to binge on GOT!

You Light Up My Life

Museum of Fine Arts | Houston, Texas | Pipilotti Rist: Pixel Forest and Worry Will Vanish

This past Saturday, my love surprised me by taking me to the Museum of Fine Arts for Pipilotti Rist: Pixel Forest and Worry Will Vanish exhibit. Watch the video below for a short clip of it I took.

Finally got to see Pipilotti Rist: Pixel Forest and Worry Will Vanish exhibit at The Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Heart is happy. @mfahouston . . . . . #art #pixelforest #worrywillvanish #pipilottirist #mfah #htx #houston #texas #exhibit #instaart #light #fairylights #colorful #happy #happyheart #melliedeephotography

My heart is so happy. This is what I want one of my rooms to be in my future house but I wouldn’t even know where to hang them. Sigh … so happy.

Pho Binh 59 South | Houston, Texas

He even went to Pho Binh 59 South with me even though he craved a nice, juicy Grub burger. I ordered the vermicelli special bowl that comes with pork, chicken, and shrimp. The pork is hands down the best I’ve ever had anywhere.

Khun Kay Thai Cafe | Houston, Texas

Afterward we met up with Rami and Caitlin Khun Kay Thai Cafe so that Caitlin can grab a bite. We watched her eat while catching up before heading back to their house to play 42 or Texas 42, a domino game.

Moody Ice | Houston, Texas

We headed to the public library for Caitlin to pick up a book that was on hold and went to Moody Ice since it was such a hot day out.

Moody Ice | Houston, Texas | Coconut Hawaiian Shaved Ice

Hawaiian Shaved Ice [coconut syrup, condensed milk, Blue Bell vanilla ice cream, and fresh fruit]

Scruffy and I shared a coconut flavoured one. We were both surprised how much we liked it! YUM!! We played a Russian card game that I cannot remember the name to before heading back to their house where more 42 was played before their friend Sam came over. We all hung out, planned a bro’s shower (baby), and when Sam left, played Trivial Pursuit board game edition.

Houston Art Museum | Houston, Texas | Pipilotti Rist: Pixel Forest and Worry Will Vanish Exhibit

When we got back to Scruffy’s, we ordered UberEats since we hadn’t had a proper dinner meal. Scruffy ate and played Destiny 2 with Blake while I stuffed my face, watched telly and searched for jobs.

Mellie Dee & Rizzo Sleeping

Sunday morning, we picked up Pei Wei to have lunch at Andrew’s house and then Scruffy and I hung out a bit at his own house before I headed home. After a long cuddle session with him I headed over to Sarah’s to go through the run down for her wedding this coming weekend. I’m coordinating her wedding and after four hours of going through everything with her, I think it’ll be perfectly fine. Fingers crossed!

Thuy’s & Vu’s Wedding

March 1, 2017 by Mellie Dee 1 Comment

New Fortune Chinese Seafood Restaurant | Austin, Texas | Thuy’s & Vu’s Wedding | Reception Picture | Table 29

L to R: Scruffy, Me, Amy, Andy, Vu, Thuy, Patricia, Rachel, Maria, Ryan

Last weekend, Scruffy and I drove up to Austin to witness Thuy and Vu tie the knot. It was one of the best weddings I’ve ever been to and it was all planned out by the newlyweds. Props. I cannot wait to see what their future holds. I’m hoping twins since it’s in his genes. hehe It was such a lovely, fun weekend, albeit I was super grouchy and tired.

Hope Outdoor Gallery | Austin, Texas | Graffiti Wall

Yelp

On Friday, February 24th, Scruffy and I woke up and bolted out the door. We made stops to Randall’s, McDonald’s, and Walgreens before making our way to the well known graffiti wall. I see so many people take pictures here and even have friends that tag so it’s been on my list of to-do’s.

Hope Outdoor Gallery | Austin, Texas | Artist Spray Paints Graffiti Wall

It was super sunny and the artist was drenched with sweat but he continued on. Dedication right there. I wish I got to see his finish product though and also wished we brought spray paint so we could leave our mark as well.

Hope Outdoor Gallery | Austin, Texas | Scruffy at Graffiti Wall

There was a lot of climbing on slanted, rocky ground and since I forgot to change into my trainers before we started, I only climbed up as much as I could – dang flip flops. Scruffy ventured out a little more and I was able to get some cool shots of him. After he had enough sweating we headed to lunch.

Michi Ramen

(512) 386-1908 | Website

Scruffy’s classic Michi Ramen had the perfect flavour while my Sapporo Ramen was a little salty probably due to adding the garlic oil which he opted out of adding. It was also a downer that they didn’t have bean sprouts but only a mixture of veggies. We went right around opening time so to not have something that you know is a staple is unacceptable.

For the mochis: Pistachio just doesn’t do well but the green tea was on point. Other than that the mochis weren’t anything to rave about.

There’s nothing much to say about this place. I thought it’d be the bomb dot com but walked out unsatisfied.

Oskar Blues Brewery | Austin, Texas

We decided to check into our hotel so that we can put our bags down before heading to a brewery. The traffic was starting so we found this one close by and it was not a let down.

Oskar Blues Brewery | Austin, Texas | Canon, Sunglasses, Beer

I loved a select few and he liked practically all of them. The glass in the picture is a smaller glass for $3 which is great if you don’t drink much or want to try more. After a few more beers, Scruffy agreed to use the photo booth they had with me which made my day.

Rock Rose | Jack & Ginger's Irish Pub | Austin, Texas | Irish Car Bombs

We bid farewell and headed towards Rock Rose Domain area. I dragged him into Paper Source, Francesca’s, Sephora and various other shops bumping into two of the bridesmaids.

We came in for a Irish Car Bomb and decided to get the wings as well. They were both equally delicious. I didn’t remember to take a picture of the wings but …

… I was able to snap a picture of this cutie. He’s probably going to hate this picture but I love his little smirk.

We headed to our last brewery, the one he’s been wanting to revisit again. We paid for the special they have that comes with 6 beers, a tour and glass per person. Naked Nun is still my favourite. Mmm …

Adelbert's Brewery | Austin, Texas | Kitty Cats

The two kitties stole the show though. They just adopted them for mice catching purposes but I’m sure the one on the right is planning a getaway.

They always have food trucks on site and we were lucky enough to try their giant eggroll. We didn’t know how hungry we were until we scarfed down our food in minutes. Sweet potato chips are 100% better than regular kettle chips places usually serve. All restaurants, take notice.

Rock Rose | Taverna | Austin, Texas | Fritto Misto

We had a swift stop at the hotel before heading out to meet with Trisha and her friend, Christy. We ended up back at Rock Rose Domain where Trisha ate dinner and the rest of us drank. Scruffy and I shared the platter of fried goodness but stopped munching on it due to the super oily residue it kept leaving in our mouths and fingers.

After hours and hours of catching up, Trisha gave us some goodies and we bid farewell. Back to the hotel for a good night’s rest.

Marriot Hotel | Complimentary Breakfast

On Saturday, February 25th, Scruffy and I sleepily made our way downstairs for our complimentary breakfasts. We bumped into Amy and caught up with her while we waited for our food. As we all made our way back to our rooms, we realized Amy was rooming right across from us! #winning Scruffy and I enjoyed our breakfast with a side of Lost. Those are hands down some of the best potatoes we’ve had.

Twin Liquors | Austin, Texas

We decided to pick up some liquor and drinks to pregame with.

And decided to pick up lunch to take back to the hotel so we could watch telly while eating. In-N-Out in Texas is a great big fail. It might be the best over in California but here, it’s always been a miss. The fries were so stale that Scruffy punctured his gums and started bleeding.

Marriot Hotel | Austin, Texas | Thuy's & Vu's Wedding | Patricia, Amy, Mellie Dee, Scruffy, Andy

I was so busy pregaming that when I went over to Amy’s room to hang out, I realize everyone else was almost done getting ready. We met up at the hotel lobby for a quick picture and to carpool to the festivities.

Holy Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church | Austin, Texas | Thuy's & Vu's Wedding

Thuy & Vu tie the knot!

We waited patiently for the ceremony to start during which I noticed many familiar faces. After an hour later, the two were officially married. Look at them smiles! And her dress is to DIE for. Sigh …

There was a two hour gap until the reception so we all headed to HEB for snacks and drinks, headed back to the hotel where we gathered in the lobby. After awhile, I started falling asleep and Scruffy and I went upstairs for a nap.

The reception was off the hook. Vu’s dad was the best performer ever, singing and dancing! I see where Vu gets it from now. And the food was on point and perfectly catered to the different ethnicity present. I think the least favourite was the chicken. Cold chicken seems to put non-Asians off.

When the lights turned on around eleven, it was time to head out. We stopped by at the hotel then headed to the after party. People slowly trickled in and we were able to talk to everyone who was to busy to before due to their wedding duties.

Whataburger | Austin, Texas

After a while the majority was crashing. We stopped by Whataburger before going back to the hotel.

On Sunday, February 26th, Scruffy and I overslept and missed the breakfast. I ate my leftover Whataburger, packed the rest of our stuff, and headed downstairs to bid Amy and Patricia goodbye while Andy was showering.

We’ve both had Indian food the past couple of weekends but we were still craving it and had decided before the trip began we would come back for lunch. We ordered our usual and scarfed it down before heading back to his place for an episode of Lost. Then it was home for dinner with the family since Sissy and BIL were coming over.

Especially thankful for this kid right here for hanging out with me and my friends, getting me dranks because my ass was too lazy to do so, taking various silly photo booth pictures, and still sticking around even though I was constantly grouchy. Yous a trooper!

2017 Asia Trip | Day 5

January 10, 2017 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Cafe de Coral | Hong Kong | Breakfast

Vincent was running late so the parents, Kathy, Sissy and I went to breakfast at Cafe de Coral where I split a meal with Sissy.

Hong Kong Landscape 3

We walked around for a short period before meeting up with Vincent to ride the subway towards Lamma Island.

Hong Kong to Cheung Chau Ferry

Once we arrived we realized we had just missed the ferry that takes us to Lamma Island. Since we had to wait another hour for the next one we decided to go to Cheung Chau instead.

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Ferry Docking

On the ferry we talked about various things before the majority fell asleep.

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Ferry Docked

Soon enough we were docked.

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Arrival

Hello, Cheung Chau.

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Boats & Bikes

There were so many bikes and boats! Everything looked pretty much the same … how does anyone know which one is theirs?

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Original Building

We started walking around and saw a historic building that is being preserved.

Love Locks | Cheung Chau, Hong Kong

And we ran across Love Locks where couples lock in their love and hope it lasts.

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Drying Shrimp

This old man was shelling and deveining shrimp before laying them out to dry. He had so much more on the other side of him!

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Fish Balls

Mum was on the search for jumbo fish balls she had when we was younger.

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Regular Jumbo Fish Balls

And when she finally found the regular ones she was ecstatic.

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Curried Jumbo Fish Balls

Then she walked to the next stall and saw curried balls and she went crazy.

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Egg Waffles

Sissy, on the other hand, was all up in that egg waffle.

Seafood Restaurant | Cheung Chau, Hong Kong

We walked towards a seafood restaurant for lunch by the water.

Seafood Restaurant | Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Fresh Seafood

All their seafood is fresh and won’t be picked until you order.

Seafood Restaurant | Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Food

I won’t ever come back to this restaurant since the food was sub par but happy I got to eat like the people I see on the telly.

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Police Boat

As we ate I noticed a police boat. How cute is that?!?!

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong | Departure

We walked around and decided it was time to go back to mainland Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club | Hong Kong

A ferry ride later we landed in The Hong Kong Jockey Club where the parents and Kathy bought their tickets on horse races.

Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong | Street

Vincent showed us Lan Kwai Fong street, the street of drinking and partying. We have never gotten to witness it firsthand. Hopefully one day!

Shanghi Popo | Hong Kong | Dumplings

We rode the subway back, close to home, to have dinner of dumplings at Shanghai Popo.

Hot Star | Hong Kong | Sweet Potato Fries & Fried Chicken

And a small snack after dinner of fried chicken and sweet potato fries.

Mango Juice | Hong Kong

And a mango juice type deal. I’m not a lover of mangoes so I thought the flavour was strong and too sweet while everyone else felt the opposite and believed they added water to dilute the juice.

Hong Kong Shopping 4

We walked to another mall center to check out a couple more stores. Around this time was when I realized my feet were killing me. I bought a foot cushion thing from Modern House and stuck it in my shoe but it didn’t do much since the blisters had already formed. TMI?

Pet Store | Hong Kong | Pomeranian

As we headed home, we walked by the pet store and saw little puppies for sale. $1000 give or take. Yikes.

ADOPT. DON’T SHOP!
