2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2

February 20, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Since we are two hours behind we slept in but not really. It was nice being able to wake up without an alarm and without waking up knowing you have to take the pup out.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | The Cottage | La Jolla, California | Amy Mellie Dee

We both got ready in record time, called an Uber and had a lovely brunch at The Cottage. We joked we were living the Trophy Wife Life. This was our favourite thing we ate all day. Definitely recommend their Benedict’s and hashes! Their bacon was crisp to perfection and they had scones you can dip in peach jam!

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Sugar & Scribe Bakery | La Jolla, California | Amy

We walked into some stores, one of which was called Sugar and Scribe they had the cutest desserts. We thought we would be able to come back and grab some but we missed our opportunity. Their encased gold mini eclairs were a big highlight. So gorgeous! the sprinkles in a jar wall was also a big highlight. I was so in love and they lady behind the counter chuckled at me as I gazed lovingly at the different types of sprinkles.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Shopping | La Jolla, California

We walked in so many different shops to name! And the view while we walked was insane. It’s paradise and I kept telling myself how content I was with how our day was going. The view was the biggest reason.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Benefit | La Jolla, California | Amy Eyebrow Waxing

We both wanted to get our brows done and figured going to Benefit shop was the best idea ever. I felt very cared for there and they were very attentive.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Seals 1 | La Jolla, California

We then walked to see the seals, number one on Amy’s list of things she wanted to see. Love the picture on the left and great memories made.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | La Jolla Cove | La Jolla, California

The views were incredible. I love how the bird posed for me and let me take various photos until I got the shot I wanted. If it wasn’t so cold, I would have probably asked if we could kayak.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Seals 4 | La Jolla, California

We kept walking around and finally found a spot to get close to the seals. This was my best shot. I love how some of them sleep upright and sometimes fall over.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Seals 2 | La Jolla, California

We took some pictures in front of the cuties. People say they smell horrible but I guess it just reminds me of seafood. Not as bad as I thought!

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Seals 3 | La Jolla, California | Amy Mellie Dee Selfies

We took our first selfies of the trip with the seals. After a bajillion pictures we finally decided to leave and venture around elsewhere.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Crazy Trees | La Jolla, California | Amy Mellie Dee

We found some crazy trees and took pictures with it. Reminds me of school pictures for some weird reason.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | La Jolla, California | Amy California Scene

I was getting thirsty and was down to grab something cold that would hydrate me. While walking through some alleys I found a perfect shot for that California vibe.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Juice Crafters | La Jolla, California

We then ended up at Juice Crafters. I snagged their #11. Their window says they’re the best in San Diego and I believe it! I chugged it in a few seconds and wanted more. I am hoping I can recreate this back home. I’m also hoping I get another juice in me before I leave. It really helped jolt my body back to life with all the walking we did.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Buzz Coffee | La Jolla, California

Amy opted for a tumeric coffee instead at Buzz. They had the cutest decor and gave me ideas on how to decorate my future home. If you’re debating if you should go here, she said it was very delicious!

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | George's | La Jolla, California

We had lunch at George’s on the Rooftop overlooking the ocean. It was nice but super foggy by the time we got here. I had mussels on my list and this place delivered. I would say I wish they had bigger mussels but I wasn’t angry about it. Amy devoured her fish tacos in minutes. I guess we were hungrier than we thought!

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Down to Earth Thai Massage | La Jolla, California

I had the great idea to get reflexology massages, otherwise known as foot massages since we’ve been walking around so much. I love that she was so down for it and one hour later she couldn’t stop raving about it and want more in the future.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | The California Picture | La Jolla, California

My most Californian shot. Palm trees and sunsets.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Amy & the Hobbit Door | La Jolla, California

We were going to go back to the Airbnb and ended up chasing the sunset. We passed by a Hobbit door and took pictures in front of it.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Amy & Mellie Dee | La Jolla, California

we went by the water hoping to take selfies with the sunset. It’s kind of hard to do so on your own.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Amy & the Sunset | La Jolla, California

I was able to get these shots of Amy enjoying the sunset. Truthfully, she was taking pictures herself and I snapped pictures best I could to get some nice ones of her. I really love how they came out.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Sunset & Flowers | La Jolla, California | Amy

I also loved these as well. Purple flowers apparently make me happy and getting it with the sunset was a great plus. I love how great of a subject Amy was. I’ll tell her directions and she listens so well!

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Beach House & Sunset | La Jolla, California

My favourite shot of the night. My dream house. I’m glad I don’t have this every day. I’m sure if I did I’d get sick of the view so fast.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 2 | Athens Cafe Uber | San Diego, California

We decided to head back to the Airbnb and figure out what to have for dinner. We both were down to not go anywhere. We had A Cinderella Story playing in the background while we edited pictures and laughed about all of them as we waited for our Uber Eats from Cafe Athena. Once it got here and the movie finished we picked a Set It Up to watch.

It’s been a very peaceful day. We walked a lot of steps and I feel terrific. Stress? What’s that?

Crumbl Cookies | Katy, Texas

Crumbl Cookies | Katy, Texas | Oreo, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Sugar Cookie with Almond Icing

Work was so crazy today that I had to cancel my lunch plans. Lunch plans that I rarely get to make. So when I get a text that Mallory picked up some cookies from the new bakery, Crumbl Cookies, my heart was happy.

She got Oreo, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, and Sugar Cookie with Almond Icing. I’m not sure what they are called but that’s how I’d describe it.

My favourite was the Oreo as there were little pieces inside. The chocolate chip was the worst in my opinion, a big let down. As for the peanut butter, if they put in chunks of Reese’s like they did in the Oreo, I think it would have been better. The almond icing on the sugar cookie was very overpowering but it wasn’t so bad.

Tiff Treats is still our number one favourite place but if we had to pick gourmet then I guess they could do.

Mellie Dee & Jacob

Jacob fared well in my hands. I gave him back before he started bawling again. JJ has liked me more ever since I read him bedtime stories. Or maybe he’s growing up and realized I’m amazing.

2020 Chinese New Year Lion Dance

January 26, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Sleeping at two in the morning I set my alarm for seven am so that I could check in to see if Mallory was still down to do lion dances with me. Actually, it was for me to do it with her. She called me out for never taking her in the years we’ve known one another.

Starbucks | Sous Vide Eggs

I stopped by Starbucks for a green tea latte and picked up a coffee for her as well. Since I had taken meds, I had to eat and picked up these eggs for the first time. It’s actually not bad, and similar to the egg cupcakes I use to make in college.

Karma Kolaches & Desserts | Katy, Texas | Mallory & JJ

The fatty in me couldn’t resist a Kolaches when we got to Karma Kolache and Desserts. This was were the lion dances were happening and JJ was super excited! He was also hopped up on his sugar from the donuts but stayed a sweet sweet boy. Mallory and I loved the kronut the best and hope to come back for more in the future.

Karma Kolaches & Desserts | Katy, Texas | Mallory & JJ | 2020 Chinese New Year Lion Dance

Soon enough, the lions started dancing and JJ, afraid when they approached at first ended up loving them. He was brave enough to feed them dollar bills and was eaten by one in the last frame.

2020 Chinese New Year | JJ Chinese Jacket

We decided to go again to the HMart one so I followed them home and relaxed a bit before heading back out again, this time with John as well. We met up with Madison, Brandon, Daisy, Darby, and Danica. They were already chowing down on some egg waffles and ice cream so John ordered an ice cream and shared it with JJ.

I share this picture because JJ finally fits the Chinese Jacket I got him when he was born! He loved it and would have kept it on if it wasn’t so thick. Fail on my part for thinking it’d be cold during Chinese New Year. Come on, Melissa, we live in Texas.

HMart | Katy, Texas | JJ, Daisy, Danica, Darby | 2020 Chinese New Year Lion Dance

This one was definitely more professional since they did some neat tricks and even have the guy in the mask. Not sure his name but his role is to trick the lions to come to him.

After we left and was heading to Mallory’s house, JJ kept asking if he could come over to my house. I guess I’m cool now. He probably associate lions to me now like he does with Trey and his motorcycle.

Poached Eggs

I made a delicious early dinner. First time I ever poached eggs and I’m proud with how they came out.

Cleaning is complete and I worked a good couple of hours and meal prepped. It’s been a very busy day but it’s all been worthwhile.

Road Trip with Liliana

July 21, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

It’s been a long overdue road trip with Liliana. We’ve spoken so many times but never executed the plans so I was very excited for today to come. She came to pick me up even though it was out of her way since I’m still a little shaken up from the crash.

Newman’s Bakery | Beeville, Texas

We made our way to Beeville and checked in at Newman’s Bakery for the castle tour. We picked up some goodies as well. They were super sweet but they were delicious. I threw the rest away because it was too overly sweet and had nowhere to put it.

Newman’s Castle | Beeville, Texas

We took the ten minute drive to the Newman’s Castle and was impressed at how fancy it looks. The owner knew he talked a lot (from reviews I suppose) and since it was super hot out, he gave everyone permission to begin their own tours if we didn’t want to listen. Also, it was air conditioned inside so it was a plus.

Newman’s Castle | Beeville, Texas | Lunch

After touring the place on our own, we went in for our free lunches. These sandwiches tasted better than other sandwiches and I believe it’s the thick bread and thick slices of turkey. They even had mead! It was super strong and left a horrible taste in our mouths but others loved it.

[2018] 202/365: Newman’s Castle

After lunch we bid farewell to the castle and headed on our merry way.

Chappell Hill Lavender Farm | Brenham, Texas

We were going to go to Blue Bell Creamery but with all the sugar we had we opted for an impromptu stop at Chappell Hill Lavender Farm. It wasn’t the right month for picking but their shops were still opened so we bought some goodies. Funny enough we ended up getting ice cream there. Blueberry Lavender for me and White Chocolate Lavender for her. We didn’t really taste the lavender much and didn’t think it was worth the money. Whomp. I had a few bites of mine until I called it a day.

Liliana Engagement Present Opening

We checked into our hotel and I surprised Lily with her engagement gift. Silly her, thinking it was my toiletry bag or something. Haha

Liliana Engagement Present Contents

An old picture I took of all the contents. I cannot wait for her to use and taste everything! Don’t forget to share with Daniel!!

Wedding Planning with Liliana

We had plans to go shopping in little shops downtown but we ended up sitting in bed planning her wedding and catching up. I missed this and am so happy we were able to do this for hours.

Los Cabos Mexican Grill & Steakhouse | Brenham, Texas

Our stomachs started growling and we ended up at Los Cabos Mexican Grill & Steakhouse. There was so much food and I felt like I was going to blow. I had so much leftover I had to pack it all up.

Now we are back at the hotel. We showered and as Lily waits for me to finish typing, she’s talking to Daniel and watching Wonder Women. Daniel just FaceTime her so I’m going to try to get in on this conversation. Haha Just kidding … maybe. Bye!!

Belated Birthday Dinner

May 19, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar

We’re obsessed with Kura Revolving Sushi Bar. Okay, maybe I’m obsessed and he just comes with me. I just really love the revolving bar and throwing those plates in! And since it’s so close to 85 Bakery, I’m always able to grab some goodies to go.

Dulce Tapioca | Taro Milk Tea

We went and returned my things from Loft and stopped and picked up a Taro Milk Tea from Dulce Tapioca, Scruffy’s favourite bubble tea place.

World of Beer | Black and Tan and Blueberry Beer

We went home and were lazy couch potatoes before heading out to grab drinks at World of Beer.

2018 | 139/365 | Grimaldi's Pizza

[2018] 139/365: Grimaldi’s Belated Birthday Celebration

We then met up with Mallory, JJ, and John for a belated birthday dinner of Grimaldi’s. It was delicious but way overpriced. I still believe Blaze has the best pizzas and you get to put as many toppings as you like for the same price.

Nothing Bundt Cake | Confetti

At the end of the meal, I shared my free Nothing Bundt Cake and JJ was in love. He scarfed it all down! I gave the rest to them to take home and Mallory told me John ate it all right after they got home. haha
