A few months back, some work emails between me and another company surfaced a separate email from one of the ladies to ask if I was from Hong Kong. Because she was and she doesn’t really get to “meet” any other Cantonese speakers. She then shared she used to live in Houston until recently having to move to Colorado. We became friends on Facebook, traded mobile numbers, and once in a while, we will have niceties.
Today I get a text from her that she and her old calculus student added one another on Facebook and saw that her student had a mutual friend with me. I’m not too certain how she found this out but I didn’t question it. Small world. The mutual friend I have with her student was Ashy, Scruffy’s dad. And I come to find out, Scruffy’s cousin is the student.
It’s crazy how everyone is connected, one way or another. And even though it’s been a while, seeing those names flood memories back and takes you to another place and time.
Work has been a rollercoaster this week. So many people are out on vacation or sick that it’s stressful being “one of the only ones” that can fix the issues. And I don’t even know everything since I’m still pretty new.
I haven’t been hungry all week but when Wacko and Erin asked if I wanted to go to lunch with them and Monica, I was just glad to be able to get away, off-campus and enjoy conversations about anything BUT work. We went down a few memory lane trips since I’ve known Wacko since 2007 and Monica since 2008. Erin was the latest, 2013 I believe.
Luckily tomorrow is Friday, which I’m more than likely going to leave early if shiet doesn’t hit the fan again. Three day weekend. Next week will be a three day work week before having another three day weekend. Why can’t every week be this way?
