Brunch consisted of curry pork with rice. Mum had some and she had the red bean ice as well. I stuck with water. I’m not a big fan of curry, but I can never stay away from Chinese curry. It’s different. Try it and you’ll understand.

IMG_7895

Then I went to a Chinese Doctor … because there’s a lot of things wrong with me. bahaha Two of those drinks are mine. It’s bitter and tastes like .. shit. It’s suppose to fix my problems in three doses. So that means two cups times three … Kill. Me. Now.

IMG_7901IMG_7902IMG_7903IMG_7904IMG_7896IMG_7897IMG_7898IMG_7899IMG_7900

Then we had Dim Sum again. After 2pm. Discount. Plus it was the last meal before Alva had to start work. Since I was so full from my early eatings and medicine I only ate a little while PoPo, Mum, and Alva ate the rest.

Pig intestines are still one of my favorites.

IMG_7908

We went to a store to buy bracelets and earrings. We walked away with 2 bracelets and about 5 earrings. Crazy huh? I don’t have ear holes. They’re for my fams. Excited to give it to them!

IMG_7905

Bought a cake roll for funsies. Yum!

Then Mum and I went grocery shopping … Gai See. This is what it usually looks like the old school way below. My favorite way of shopping for foods. I got the pictures online because they don’t let you take pictures and if they see you they will chase you with their butcher knives. Jokes but … seriously. They don’t like it.

Vegetables and fruit stands tend to look like this.

Fish or any seafood tends to look like this. They don’t care if you’re near … if you’re close by, you will get splashed. Don’t ever wear pretty clothes to grocery shopping …

Live chickens they will kill in front of your dang face.

Pork and beef is hung up and you get to chose and pick. So much redness!

IMG_7906IMG_7907

We ended up buying some Chinese lettuce along with Pigeon.

Yes. You got that right. Pigeon. Fried Pigeon at that. Don’t knock it till you try it. It might look like duck but it’s 100 times better.

We didn’t buy much because PoPo already had some groceries in the fridge.

Dinner for five … PoPo, Mum, Vincent, Rachel, and meeeeeee

IMG_7911IMG_7912

Other than pigeon we had the cooked lettuce, fried fish …

IMG_7913IMG_7909

… pork ribs and soup with carrots beef and some other junk that is suppose to be good for you.

So good. I love PoPo’s cooking!

IMG_7914

After dinner, Rachel and Vincent went to get ice cream and brought me back some … Belgian Triple Chocolate. I was too full to eat a bite of it but apparently it’s all mine.

Good day. Pork intestine AND pigeon all in one day! Smile

IMG_7843IMG_7845IMG_7846

IMG_7847IMG_7848IMG_7849IMG_7850

Brunch with Mum at a Vietnamese Restaurant. Tea. Sugared Lemon with 7up. Red bean mixture with coconut milk. Two noodle bowls. A bowl of Napa cabbage. Fried Pork Chop and Fried Chicken wings.

Too much food. So. Full.

IMG_7853IMG_7854

We went back home for a rest or two then Alva and PoPo took us to the bus station. Double Decker Busses! Mum and I had to visit my Grandma’s Little Brother (Number 10 and his wife). Look at the view!

An hour or so later, we arrived.

IMG_7867IMG_7869IMG_7855IMG_7856IMG_7857IMG_7871

We talked for a little while and then dinner was served. Veggies, mushrooms, veggies, clams, chicken feet, and fish heads.

Only thing I liked … mushrooms and veggies. So good. I’m not saying her cooking is bad but I’m just not a big fan of the other foods. Then I had two big lychees. Not a big fan either but they were juicy good!

IMG_7864IMG_7865IMG_7861IMG_7866

The view from their flat. The air is so clean and obviously they have a nice view! Everything seems far away but once you start walking to things, it’s actually super close by. They live on floor 20 something I believe so everything is definitely tinier from up high.

IMG_7884

When we left, Mum and I sat on a Train! Which then we got off and transferred onto a subway to get back to our flat.

IMG_7885

Along the way home, we stopped by to buy Alva some Tong Sui. I wanted some too but they didn’t have the one I wanted. Therefore I got Sui Mai and Fish Balls along with some Gai Daan Jai. YUM!

Afterward, Alva decided to go on a walk and invited me along. So we ended up going on an hour plus walk along the pier. No pictures because he didn’t tell me it was going to be so beautiful! We saw ferries, gorgeously lit up buildings, dogs roaming around freely with their owners, runners, bikers, etc. Then he showed me his old Elementary School. We talked a lot and it was pretty cool catching up. We stopped by a 7/11 to get something to drink because it was so hot and humid with little wind.

Seriously, something so simple can make me so happy. I love that my cousin and I can get along even after all these years. He might be nice to me right now because he knows I’m leaving but whatever. It just feels right.

Can I stay here forever?

2012 Asia Trip | Day 7

July 11, 2012 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

Today I woke up late. 12pm … Hong Kong time.

IMG_7827

My mum bought egg tarts because she knows it was on my list of to-eats. Although by the time I got to eating it, I only ate one, it was cold. Yet the crust was still flaky and crispy. That’s when you know it’s a good egg tart. Yum! We’ve tried making these at home and even buying it at the States, but they can’t make it like they do here in Hong Kong!

IMG_7828

By that time, Alva woke up so he got ready and went with Mum and I to the travel agency. Did I mention I’m going to Taiwan? Yep. In a few days I’ll be going to Taiwan to visit another family member … for a few days. Then back to Hong Kong I go. Excited!

So in the picture above, you see us riding the Public Light Bus. Alva tried to take a picture of the cops here because instead of the States cops that ride in motorcycles or cars, these ones walk around everywhere. Needless to say, he failed and missed all 4 of the cops that walked by.

Afterward, we went to the Jockey Club to buy more lottery tickets for PoPo. Then we headed to Dim Sum. Apparently it’s way cheaper after 2pm. It was Alva and I’s breakfast/lunch while it was Mum and PoPo’s lunch. Crazy.

IMG_7834IMG_7836IMG_7838IMG_7839IMG_7837IMG_7830IMG_7831IMG_7832IMG_7835IMG_7833IMG_7829

We always order too much dang food. But it’s so good. My favorite is all on the bottom row. The first one has soup in the dumpling. Mmm. The second one is hot peppers filled with fish cake and pan fried. The last one is made out of radishes. YUM!

We were so fulfilled with our meal. PoPo went on her own way while Mum went on hers. Alva and I went back to the flat. We watched the telly. The Hong Kong’s The Voice was on so we watched people sing while we rated them. Laughed and joked a lot. Then he had to leave for dinner with his friends.

IMG_7840

Shortly after, Mum came home with cakes! We had a coupon to redeem some cakes and so she did so. Mmm. I picked the round one on the top right hand corner and the purple cup thing. I didn’t eat them all in a sitting but boy were they delicious.

IMG_7841IMG_7842

PoPo cooked dinner but because I was so full from earlier’s Dim Sum, I only ate the vegetable on the left.

This day wasn’t as eventful. But it was fun nonetheless. It might seem the same everyday but there’s always something that makes being here so much better. Today was spending time with Alva and getting one on one time with him.

2012 Asia Trip | Day 6

July 10, 2012 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

IMG_7801

Breakfast bright and early at Everybody Lok with Kathy and Mum. I got Congee with Preserved Eggs and Pork with a side of Chinese Spam and noodles. Drink: Yin Yuan.

IMG_7802

Then Mum and I went back home to go with PoPo to the Post Office. We rode in the Public Light Bus (Green).

I finally got my stamps so I can mail postcards to peoples! Open-mouthed smile

Then PoPo went to do her own thing while Mum and I ran some errands.

IMG_7803

Mum and I stopped by before riding the Subway to get Gai Daan Jai (a pancake type batter in shape of little balls! An Egg Waffle if you will). Soooooo good. So crispy!

IMG_7805

Mum and I then went to Pizza Hut. It tastes better than the States!

IMG_7812IMG_7810IMG_7809IMG_7813IMG_7811

Lemon Ice Tea, Some type of Cream soup, garlic bread, shrimp salad, and a small Pan Supreme Pizza. So much food. I was stuffed.

Seriously. If you ever get a chance to eat Pizza Hut in Hong Kong, do it. You will never see Pizza Hut in the States the same again.

IMG_7817

We bought some Pork Jerky to share with . It’s so good over here. Definitely better than the packaged ones in the States.

IMG_7819

Bought a new watch! I had to since we were always without time and always wondered how long we did something.

For The Kids … ALWAYS! Smile

IMG_7820IMG_7823IMG_7821IMG_7825IMG_7822

PoPo made dinner again! So filling. I love my veggies … and my chicken!! Open-mouthed smile

IMG_7826

Alva went and got Tong Sui (a dessert with many choices) for us. I got the Warm Sesame Tong Sui. So good. I love when I cross something off my list.

P.S. I just saw a commercial for Gossip Girls … and it’s in Chinese. Just picture it. It’s funny. I couldn’t help but laugh nonstop.

2012 Asia Trip | Day 5

IMG_7645IMG_7646IMG_7647IMG_7648IMG_7649IMG_7650IMG_7651IMG_7652IMG_7653IMG_7654IMG_7655IMG_7657IMG_7629IMG_7630IMG_7637IMG_7638IMG_7639IMG_7640IMG_7641IMG_7642IMG_7643

Woke up bright and early for Dim Sum with PoPo. Sadly Mum, Alva, and Vincent did not wake up yet. Kathy and I went to get seats first. After an hour plus later, the rest of them followed. Rachel was the last one to show up. This is most of the food but we ordered way more after.

Balls, more balls, eggplant, rolled up sticky rice with meat, some weird animal parts, squid, peppers with meat, shrimp stuff, more squid, pork intestine and belly, chicken, rolled up type of cake, more balls, more shrimp stuff, more chicken, chicken feet, Asian pancake, radish type thing, wonton, beef wrapped with noodle, egg rolls. Sheesh. So much food. They got a little happy.

The most disgusting thing I ate? Pork intestine and belly. YUM!

IMG_7658

Little kids playing with water that sprouts up from the ground in Tung Chung.

PoPo went on her own way and the rest of us went on a long subway ride to Tung Chung.

IMG_7662

The beautiful view in Tung Chung while we waited in line to buy tickets to ride cable cars to see Buddha in Ngong Ping! Open-mouthed smile

IMG_7667

All our tickets and what not.

Funny story: My cousin, Vincent, and I were fighting over who was to pay. Of course, I won. He did put in a few bucks … after we paid we walked to the gate and realized we didn’t get our tickets. We. Are. Dumb. Luckily my other cousin, Alva, heard the dude at the window yelling at us to come back so he got the tickets. Embarrassing. Moral of the story? Don’t fight to pay because in the end, you’ll forget your tickets and walk to the entrance and they won’t let you in. Smile with tongue out

IMG_7669IMG_7670

More pretty views. One of many. While waiting for the cable cars!

IMG_7678

Me in the cable car.

Here are some of the five bajillion that I took!

IMG_7695

IMG_7697

IMG_7712

We finally see Buddha!

IMG_7715

Vincent poking Buddha’s head. haha Then began our journey walking towards Buddha.

IMG_7720IMG_7728IMG_7726

Little kung fu fighters.Smile with tongue out And lots of cows that roam around eating grass. Along with lots of dogs that run wildly.

IMG_7730

Buddha is just a few steps away … up those stairs.

We stopped halfway so they could catch their breath. And so that we can take some pictures.

IMG_7739

I finally made it! Whoo. I had a little shortness of breath but that went away real fast. I guess I’m pretty much in shape? Winking smile

IMG_7741IMG_7744

Another couple pictures of the bajillion I took of the view at the top. People live here. That’s the reason for the dogs and such. But oh geebus, the air was amazing up here. So fresh and clean and a little windy. Just how I like it.

IMG_7750

Mum and I then ran up a few more steps and touched Buddha. Mission accomplished.

IMG_7752

But then I read the sign … whoops. Too late. I am sorry Mister Buddha, Sir, I didn’t know.

IMG_7766

Then we walked back down where we visited some of their shops and played with some of their things. Excuse my red eye and shiny face.

IMG_7770IMG_7785

On the way back, we sat in a cable car that had a glass bottom so we can see everything below us.

So green!! Trees everywhere … and water! Those two little dots are people … fishing.

IMG_7789

Then we went back to the subway station. I thought to share this with y’all …in vending machines here, they put things … not food. Here, you see headphones, phone cases, chargers, and other knickknacks. Fancy, huh?

IMG_7795IMG_7797IMG_7796IMG_7799

Then it was time for dinner. Hot pot it is. This time we went to Giant Seafood Hot Pot place. It’s all you can eat! You only get charged one per person but if you past the time limit they give you (I believe two and a half hours?) then they charge more but other than that … all you can eat set price of around $20 per person. Not bad. This is only the beginning. I got too busy eating to take pictures. Smile with tongue out

IMG_7798

I’m keeping this small because it might look gross to some of y’all but the white part you see is cartilage from I believe a pig? And you can eat it. Here, they call it crispy bone. Mmm so good!

Day 5 has been very eventful!
