2015 Asia Trip | Day 2

October 30, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Cafe de Coral - Hong Kong - Breakfast

B went with the parents and Kathy to get his ID issuance. Sissy, BIL, SIL, and I went off on our own for breakfast. It looks horrible, I know. But I promise it tasted way better than the looks. Here, they’re more about getting people in and out. This is how simple a breakfast is and sometimes I miss this. Nothing too fancy, but so satisfying. I guess you can say this is one of my comfort foods.

Hong Kong Streets Morning

Afterward we walked all around while looking for a drugstore or supermarket to buy random things. It was still early so there weren’t many people on the street. Which meant we could see so much more of everything. It was nice being able to take it all in.

Hong Kong Country Club Lunch

We went back to our place to drop off our stuff and got ready. We rode the metro again to Central to meet up with our parents and B. We walked a bit around the mall then headed across the street to meet Dad’s cousin and wife and two daughters for lunch. This was equivalent to a US’s country club. There was too much food and it just kept coming.

Longest Tallest Escalator Travelator - Hong Kong

Afterward, they took us to the longest/highest travelator/escalator in the world. And it’s outdoors!! This goes up to the top of the mountain. A travelator is kind of like those fast walking things you find at the airport. In the mornings they go down so the residents can use it to go to work and whatnot and once it hits a certain time, they go up. If you want to go the opposite direction you would have to actually walk the stairs or take a bus/car ride. Freaking crazy right?

Bidet Bathroom - Hong Kong

Dad’s cousin’s family lives at the top of the mountain so he invited us into his home. He has a bidet and a telly in his master restroom. WTF … too fancy.

Victoria Peak Hong Kong Morning

He took us in his van up to part of Victoria Peak. This is what the view looks like in the morning. Super gorgeous and the breeze felt nice. He then dropped us off at the metro afterward and we headed back to our abode where we freshened up and the rest took naps.Metro Boy - Hong Kong

On the metro back, this kid comes in holding his fan while watching something on his phone. He had would occasionally rest on my arm … how awkward. When we jerked from starts and stops I would accidentally whack him in the face. I really thought I’d break his glasses. Um … who does that? So freaking weird.

Taiwan Sweets

We met up with Wilson and his wife at their hotel where we caught up a bit and figured out where to eat. This is a box of goodies he brought us from Taiwan. Mmmm …

Hong Kong Dinner

Dad took us in circles trying to find this one restaurant. After walking over 3 miles, we took his leadership away and decided on a different restaurant. Again … more food. Gah … Can’t even handle it. Dad’s cousin and wife also met up for dinner with us. After a while of just sitting and eating, we were tired so the kids got up and left. We went back to the abode and waited on Vincent and Rachel.

Next Station Dessert - Hong Kong

They all wanted desset so we headed to Next Station Dessert. There was a rule there where every single person had to either order a dessert or a drink. So … we all overloaded on sugar.

  • Black Pepper Molten Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Hot Latte
  • Mango Smoothie
  • Green Tea Molten Cake with Pink Lady Yoghurt Ice Cream
  • Green Tea Foam (red bean panna cotta, strawberry jelly, wheat germ meringue, and green tea ice cream)
  • Mango Waffle with Pink Lady Yoghurt Ice Cream
  • Purple Sweet Potato Waffle with Vanilla Ice Cream

We then made plans for tomorrow … Sissy’s birthday!! Time for bed so I can get ready for a SUPER long day of walking tomorrow. Bye!

Catch Up

Serenading Sissy While I Teach Her To Curl Hair

November 21, 2015 :: I opted out of the studio to serenade Sissy in her bathroom while I taught her how to curl her hair since she wanted to do it for Brother’s wedding. And when I played she asked me some questions about guitar. It’s funny how the little sissy is teaching the older sissy things. I’m proud to say when wedding day came, she killed it with the curling of her super thick long hair without any help. So so proud. Moments like these with anyone are my favourite. I don’t get much of these moments with anyone anymore since we all have our own things going on (or because I’m kind of lazy to get out of my comfort zone) so I cherish them with all my heart.

Brian and Tammy Wedding - Dallas, Texas

September 26, 2015 :: B is officially married! I cried when I saw him get out of the Tesla in his suit … but other than that, I didn’t cry at all which surprised me. I was honored Tammy asked me to be a bridesmaid. I got to spend more time with B throughout since I was part of the wedding party. I get probably only three times a year to spend with him since we live in different places and I constantly contemplate if I should move to Dallas to be closer to them. But then I’ll want to be close to Sissy and the parents as well. At the same time, I feel like someone or something is keeping my heart hostage in Houston even though I know nothing will come from it. Maybe one day my heart will be free and if not fully, enough to where Dallas might be more of a possibility. We all joked that in the picture I am waiting for my significant other. He never shows up … per usual. haha

Wine Night - Pinot Noir

October 02, 2015 :: Sissy had a wine night at her place. Everyone brought a bottle of pinot noir and we blind judged them to best to least favourite. I got second place!!! Which is pretty sweet since I don’t know anything about alcohol but that I like ’em (all). I probably drank a bottle and a half and I was feeling perfectly fine. I was having fun and laughing and joking and it was grand … until I decided to chug a few shots of fireball. For the first time in my life I can say I was fully drunk … the kind of drunk where I actually threw up (like a lady) and where I didn’t remember a little part of the night … the part of the night where I might have said something to someone who doesn’t care about me that way anymore … ever? At least I can check off getting drunk of my bucket list once and for all.

Pete's Piano Bar and MKT Bar - Houston, Texas

October 09, 2015 :: Tried out a new place. MKT Bar. BIL and I got beer flights and we did our trade off of the ones we liked and disliked between the two per usual. Had chicken and waffle sliders, chickpea fries, and three different types of creme brulee. The other two got some kind of cocktail and desserts. We were so stuffed. The best part of the night other than trying out a new place is getting to go to Pete’s Piano Bar. I hadn’t been since last time I went with Travis and Jenny back in San Antonio when we did our little trip. I love this place. I love watching people play and sing and just act silly. Gahhhh … wish I was as talented as these folks. They can literally play every instrument AND sing. I was “in love” with the douche as BIL put it. He was douchey … but he made me laugh the most which I needed since the whole entire week was horrible. So So SO SOSOSOSOSOS horrible. I can’t even begin to start explaining.

Hot Pot - Houston, Texas

October 10, 2015 :: I finally got to try hot pot in a restaurant here in the USA. I’ve only had it in my household and in Asia whenever I visit. They don’t have as much choices as Asia … obviously. Would I come back? I don’t know … it’s debatable only because when we do it at home, we get to buy everything we like so that means more food that we love. The only downside about it is having to clean up. But if we have enough hands helping out, it’s not too bad.

The week is almost over. One more day and it’s the weekend. I have plans to see my faves. Hopefully I actually don’t get lazy and follow through with my plans.

Hope you’re all having a great week and an even greater weekend ahead!

Till next time, Stay Positive and Think Good Thoughts!

Tammy’s Bachelorette Part II – Meso Maya, Move Studio, La Bichette, Dish Cedar Springs | Dallas, Texas

August 26, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Friday, August 14th

Motorcycle Helmet & Luggage

Packed and ready to head to Dallas. John and Katie picked me up and we went to Chinatown for lunch before heading out. The whole ride there I listened to my music and played brain games on my IPad. It was nice to not having to drive for once.

Keurig

Jenny picked me up from Joanna’s and we had our catch up moment as we drove to my brother’s house. When I got there, the first thing I really wanted to do was to try out my brother’s Keurig. I’m not a crazy coffee drinker and probably drink 10 out of the year. Coolest. Thing. Ever.  I heard they do teas too which is more up my alley. If I ever have my own place, I’d want one for guests.

Meso Maya | Dallas, Texas

Our first stop was to:

Meso Maya
1611 McKinney Ave
Dallas, Texas 75202
(214) 484-6555
http://mesomaya.com

Meso Maya | Dallas, Texas - Jenny & Mellie Dee

Jenny and I sent a Snapchat selfie to Travis to tell him we miss him. Our three musketeer days are over and though we always speak of having another reunion soon, we know it’s harder and harder as we live our own separate lives. When Andy and I decided he would be a perfect match for this one girl, I knew conversations with him will lessen. But knowing he’s happy makes me happy.

Meso Maya | Dallas, Texas - Chips & Dip

Chips & Dip | Free

I wish we knew what was in the dip. It was very dark brown. It wasn’t bad but I’m more of the avocado dip person which they didn’t have.

Meso Maya | Dallas, Texas - Queso Poblano

Queso Poblano [melted chihuahua cheese, creamy queso blanco, roasted poblanos, fresh corn, nopalitos] | $8

We believe this is what we got. All we told the waiter was, “Queso, please!” because they weren’t really fully digging the dip that came with the chips. I’m not a big lover of cheese and can do without it. But the other four swears this is the best queso they’ve ever had. One even wanted to lick the bowl clean because it was “that damn good!”

Meso Maya | Dallas, Texas - Carne Tacos de la Casa

Carne Tacos de la Casa [2 tacos – wood-grilled marinated skirt steak romaine lettuce, tomatoes, avocado tomatillo sauce, pickled red onions, queso fresco, cilantro, with homemade soft white corn tortillas, white rice, and black beans served with habanero sauce on the side] | $13

The habanero sauce killed Sammi. I could do it in moderation. I only ate the tacos which were by far the best carne I’ve had in a while. I didn’t even touch the rice and beans since there was no choice for either other than how it usually comes. Boo.

Meso Maya | Dallas, Texas - Bachelorette

Group of gals minus Mary who had to work. Booooooo. Silly girl took the wrong days off. HAHA

Dallas Downtown Hotel View

Our night and day hotel view of downtown Dallas. When we were checking in, I briefly talked about how this bachelorette party is going to be crazy … and it worked. I know it’s not going to be crazy, but sometimes when you mention things like that, they upgrade you to a suite and it worked. Whoooop!

I can’t share anymore pictures from this night. Mary finally got off work and met up with us and Sammi fell asleep around 11:30 pm. That’s when the rest of us were able to do more grown up things like … open lingerie presents and talk about inappropriate things.

Saturday, August 15th

Move Studio | Dallas, Texas

Move Studio
17062 Preston Rd
Dallas, Texas 75248

Move Studio | Dallas, Texas - Burlesque Dance Class Bachelorette

We woke up and got McDonald’s for breakfast. We’re that classy.

Then we made our way to the dance studio. The lady taught us burlesque dancing and lap dancing. Being the sillies that we are, we couldn’t stop laughing – especially Sammi since she’s only 14 years old. I don’t think I will ever put these moves on anyone because it’s just too much. Well … maybe the lap dance since I’m pretty awesome at those. bahaha jk …

Move Studio | Dallas, Texas - Burlesque Dance Bachelorette

The only innocent picture we have. haha

On to our next destination …

La Bichette | Dallas, Texas

La Bichette
6405 Hillcrest Ave
Dallas, Texas 75205
(214) 520-3500
http://labichette.com

La Bichette | Dallas, Texas - Before & After Bachelorette Party

La Bichette is a place where they wash and style your hair and put makeup on your face. A lot of people apparently come here before parties and weddings.

Above is our group shot of before and afters.

La Bichette | Dallas, Texas - Before, During, After Mellie Dee

My before, during, and after.

Before is my everyday going out look. If you take off the bottom eyeliner, it’ll be my everyday look. I’m that lazy. All I need are eyebrows, top eyeliner, and mascara. During and after is with a full face of makeup where I fixed parts of my face myself after and changed clothes.

La Bichette | Dallas, Texas - Jenny, Mary, Mellie Dee

Mary, Jenny, and I being silly waiting for the others to finish up. We were there for HOURS.

I spent over $100 for the get up that will be wiped clean few hours later and personally, I would rather spend my money on something else. We spent hours there for something I could do myself for less than an hour. Does this make me sound un-girly?

We grabbed a small snack from Chick-fil-a and went back to the hotel and relaxed a bit, got ready and headed to:

Dish Cedar Springs | Dallas, Texas

Dish – Cedar Springs
4123 Cedar Springs Rd
Dallas, Texas 75225
(214) 522-3474
http://dish-dallas.com

Dish Cedar Springs | Dallas, Texas - Bachelorette

We were lucky enough to have come here during Dallas Restaurant Week which donates to the North Texas Food Bank. It was $45 for a three course meal. It sounds like a lot but was well worth it. The entree itself cost almost that much.

Dish Cedar Springs | Dallas, Texas - Avocado & Lump Crab Cocktail

Avocado & Lump Crab Cocktail [fresh grated horesradish, togarishi spice, thousand island]

Best. Thing. Ever. I cannot explain how delicious this was. All I can say is that I would come back here for this … even though it’s expensive for just half an avocado. Guess the crab is what makes it cost so much.

Dish Cedar Springs | Dallas, Texas - Jumbo Driver Sea Scallops

Jumbo Driver Sea Scallops [sweet corn, bacon, poached egg, pearl couscous, citrus butter]

I rarely order seafood when I go to these kinds of restaurants. It’s always steak and potatoes. But since my stomach wasn’t feeling well, I opted for the scallops and it was the best decision ever. I didn’t finish all of my couscous and I’m starting to realize, I can’t eat like I use to since I wasn’t able to finish my food the night before either.

Dish Cedar Springs | Dallas, Texas - Fresh Berry Crisp

Fresh Berry Crisp [oatmeal topping, champagne sorbet]

Hot and cold. The oatmeal topping with the berries was amazing and all, but if they only sold the champagne sorbet by itself, that is exactly what I would order. It was so clean and refreshing.

Dish Cedar Springs | Dallas, Texas - Potted Chocolate Cheesecake

Potted Chocolate Cheesecake [chocolate cookie crumble, edible flowers]

Mary ordered this and I had to get a picture. I tried the flower as well as the waiter and we felt all it did was get us a little hyper … but overall, everyone loved this and finished it all up, unlike the berry crisp.

Dish Cedar Springs | Dallas, Texas - Bachelorette Dinner

Afterward, we went to a couple bars and a strip club. No pictures to show. haha To be honest, I’m not interested in big muscly guys especially if I don’t know them personally nor will I feel the way all the others who go there do. I’m more interested in their choreography if anything. And I’m always told I’m weird because of it and maybe I am. I’ve always been this way and because of this, I know I won’t be tempted or cheat if I ever end up with anyone. Does this make me more un-girly too?

Overall it was a pretty chill bachelorette which was what we were aiming for after our nights in Vegas back in December. haha ohhhh the memories.

The Devine Affair | Houston, Texas

August 17, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Monday's A Bitch https://melliedee.com/the-devine-affair-houston-texas

I’m so tired from sitting in the car and running errands. And my stomach was killing me the whole entire car ride. Hoping it doesn’t last all week again. Complain complain. Per usual. I hope this week treats me fairly well. That we all get along. Work doesn’t pile up. My computer doesn’t die. And everyone’s happy.

Since I’m too tired to actually write like I’ve been, here’s a draft I’ve been saving for a lazy day. I suck at reviewing foods because they’re either “deilicious” or “meh” when I comment on them. So … just look at the pictures and move on. haha On August 7th, I went to Houston Restaurant Week with Apurva for a super late lunch at

The Devine Affair | Houston, Texas http://https://melliedee.com/the-devine-affair-houston-texas

The Devine Affair Restaurant & Wine Bar
14021 Memorial Dr.
Houston, TX 77079
(281) 759-6300
http://thedevineaffair.com

We were wanting the lunch menu but since we got there when lunch was over, we were handed the dinner menu. They chef was nice enough to let us order off the lunch menu and even came a few times to ask us how we liked it. Best service ever.

The Devine Affair | Houston, Texas - Bread http://https://melliedee.com/the-devine-affair-houston-texas

Free Bread!

I’m not a big fan of bread but if you love bread like Apurva does, you would like it. Their bread is made fresh and mix their own oil herb dipping sauce.

First Course

The Devine Affair | Houston, Texas - Chicken & Sausage Gumbo http://https://melliedee.com/the-devine-affair-houston-texas

Chicken & Sausage Gumbo [Cajun roux with okra, chicken, Andouille sausage & rice]

The Devine Affair | Houston, Texas - Calamari http://https://melliedee.com/the-devine-affair-houston-texas

Calamari [with lightly breaded jalapeno slices & homemade marinara]

We decided to share these two since we wanted to try both. She isn’t a fan of okra and they doused it with okra. I loved it but it was a bit salty for my taste. They didn’t bread the calamari too much so the ratio was perfect. The tentacles are always my favourite. Apurva thought those were just extra breading. haha

Entree

The Devine Affair | Houston, Texas - Mushroom-Marsala Burger http://https://melliedee.com/the-devine-affair-houston-texas

Mushroom-Marsala Burger [8 oz certified Angus burger topped with mushroom-marsala sauce with provolone cheese on a Sheila Partin sweet sour dough bun served with hand cut fries]

The Devine Affair | Houston, Texas - Blackened Salmon http://https://melliedee.com/the-devine-affair-houston-texas

Blackened Salmon [with mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables, & Cajun sauce]

The bread was semi okay. I mostly just ate the meat and the cheese. It was too much for me. I was already full after a few bites from the appetizers! The chef did come over and asked how the fries were. He admitted they’re still trying to figure out how to make the fries better. He explained that they’re made in house as well and does not have the ingredient other places use to make them crispy. Hopefully they perfect that because the fries were mehhhh. Soggy and flimsy.

I didn’t taste her salmon but she says it was delicious. She would come back and order this again in the future.

Dessert

The Devine Affair | Houston, Texas - New York Cheese Cake http://https://melliedee.com/the-devine-affair-houston-texas

New York Cheese Cake [with graham cracker crust]

The Devine Affair | Houston, Texas - Chocolate Mousse Cake http://https://melliedee.com/the-devine-affair-houston-texas

Chocolate Mousse Cake [with Oreo cookie crust]

Everyone knows I’m not a big fan of sweets so I took a bite of the cheesecake and gave the rest for her to take home to her brother. They did a mighty fine job on both of these. Super smooth.

Overall, they had great service but would I come back again in the future? Probably not. And if I ever did, I’d probably get something else.

June Update

June 29, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I know June isn’t over yet but I don’t think anything amazing will happen from now til July. I will say that I’ve been sitting on a rollercoaster of emotions the whole entire month and I still don’t know what to do with it. I feel whenever I am up, something brings me back down. June has been a whirlwind so I’ll try to make this short. So many events that just makes me so happy.

Nicole’s Baby Shower – 06/07/2015

IMG_20150607_161940 (1)

Nicole is pregnant!
And I cannot be any happier to see her so happy.
Cannot wait to see baby Lily!
I love when we have our high school reunions.

Fatimah’s & Jonas’ Wedding – 06/07/2015

IMG_20150607_221336 (1)

I never get to see her now that they live in New York.
But I was happy to be able to witness their joy.
Hoping that they make more visits back home so I can see them more.

Michelle’s & Matthew’s Rehearsal Dinner – 06/12/2015

IMG_20150613_080507 (1)

Distance means nothing to these two as their love stays strong.
Plus our rehearsal dinner was at Fogo de Chao. How cool is that?

I am so honored to have stood next to the lovebirds.
I wore something I normally wouldn’t and danced my heart away.
No f***s were given because one of my bests said “I do” to her best.

The tall guy in the back’s last name is Rizzo …. like my puppy Rizzo.
We were also both the wildest ones in the bridal party.

Imperial – burger steak topped with sweet brisket, baked mac & cheese, crispy onion strings, roasted poblano, crispy pickles, bacon jam | $17.45

So much in one burger.
I liked the way the fries were (mushy). Sammy likes them crispy.

We spent the rest of the day just chilling.
Then I left to have dinner with my family for Dad’s belated birthday.
Much needed day after such a busy last two days.

Osvaldo’s & Monica’s Wedding – 06/20/2015

IMG_20150621_015547 (1)

I’ve known these two before they were an item.
So thankful to make it to Cancun to watch them get hitched.
Cannot wait to see what the future brings for them.

Cancun Vacation – 06/18/2015 – 06/23/2015

I am so happy I finally get to cross Mexico off my list.
And that I got to experience it with all these beauties.
So many others not even pictured.
There must be something in the air over there. So many stories.
