Trying to Keep Busy

December 22, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I cannot believe Christmas is THIS week. I haven’t wrapped anything but I scheduled that for Tuesday night. And I’m still deciding if I want to bake anything as well since it’s been forever since I’ve baked. But I’ll have to find someone to gobble them up.

Wave Mentor Lunch

December 9th: I had my last group mentor session. We had a lunch party at the work’s restaurant and we all expected it to be meh … but it was surprisingly very good. Filet mignon. Mmmm … Then we showered her with gifts. She has taught me a lot that can be used in the professional world but also for the personal life world. I’m still trying to get to the point where they come naturally but at the moment it’s still a struggle for me. It sucks that she’s leaving us for the New Orleans office but knowing she’s an email away if we ever need her helps.

Teavana MalloryDecember 11th: I promised Mallory I’ll write about this in the blog although it is a couple weeks late. I accompanied her to shop for Christmas gifts. She treated me to a Teavana cold drink. It’s grapefruit or something. I don’t really remember. But if you’re a noob like me, here’s something I learned. You can use your Starbucks gift card here. Cool huh?

Typhoon Texas Waterpark Katy TexasWe walked around a bunch and bought them gifts then headed off to dinner … happy hour. We passed by the new water park that’s being built! Typhoon Texas Waterpark. It opens in May of 2016 and I jokingly asked if we could go here for my birthday and of course she said yes. Not too certain if I’d actually go here for my birthday especially since it’ll have just opened meaning lots of people … crowds. Yuck.

Tsukiji Fusion Sushi - Katy, Texas - MalloryWe had happy hour at

Sake bombs, Sushi tower, and sushi, friend rice, and hand roll. I don’t even remember what we talked about because it was just a bunch or random things meshed together. We finally left when John called to say he was hungry. Whoops.

Midnight Rodeo - John and MalloryDecember 12th: Mallory had a coworker who was celebrating his birthday at Midnight Rodeo on the 12th and since I wanted to keep my mind off of things, she invited me along. I met most of her coworkers and they are all hilarious. We just mostly drank and made fun of people with a few dancing sprinkled here and there. My favourite picture of Mallory, John, and I. Sadly it’s all dark but you can see how happy John is to be there.

Melissa Z. Apartment and Thai FoodDecember 13th: I met at Melissa Z.‘s apartment near the Galleria. Yes. We have the same name. Yes. It’s weird when I say it. We were in orchestra together in high school and this was the first time we officially hung out with one another. Alyssa was suppose to show up as well but she couldn’t make it. Yes … our names are all the same. Yes. It’s super confusing sometimes. I brought two bottles of wine, one red, one white since I wasn’t sure which one she would like, and in return she ordered us Thai food. YUM! We were just chatting up at storm for a good 4 hours. We decided we needed to do it more often and hopefully Alyssa can make it next time.

Pluckers | Austin, TexasDecember 18th: I tagged along with Apurva to pick up her brother from UT Austin. We chilled a little upon arriving to her brother’s place then walked over to Plucker’s for dinner. We talked about our love lives which I was surprised he was so openly sharing because the last few times I saw him, he was quiet and shy. College definitely opened him up.

Gourdough's Black Out | Austin, TexasWe were going to head to the Trail of Lights but our lame butts didn’t want to look for parking so we detoured to Gourdough’s instead. It’s funny because I’ve been wanting to try this place so many times before and could never make it. I got the Black Out and well … I would say, it’s all hype. Not so great. Too much sweet. But then again, I’m not a lover of desserts. I tried to scrape all the chocolate off and just eat the doughnut which isn’t bad. It’s a crunchy outer with a chewy inner. If I ever end up here again I’d probably just order a savory one instead.

Beer Run | Austin, TexasWe went to the store to stock up the fridge with dranks. Since he likes Shiner I recommended he go with the Family pack to see what he likes. Because of that they wanted me to tell them which other ones were good so I just named off some that I would buy. Hopefully he finds something he likes.

It was a trip of literally eating and picking up her brother but I didn’t mind. I like mini trips to just get away from town. I hope if I ever end up with someone, they’ll be willing to do something like this.

Liliana Christmas GiftUpon coming home, I found packages and thank you cards in the mail. Always makes me so joyous.

SushihanaDecember 19th: I had a bunch of things I wanted/needed to get done on this day but when you’re in pain, you’re in pain. I literally just stayed in bed and cuddled with Rizzo while watching who knows what. Later that night, I took Mum out to Sushihana and we rented a movie to watch at home. I am in love with raw fish lately. Not too sure why. But if anyone is willing to go eat sushi with me, let’s go!

La Madeline Fruit Tart and Latte | Houston, TexasDecember 20th: It was a busy morning but I finally got to relax in the afternoon. Blogging time at La Madeline’s. It was such gorgeous weather so I sat outside with a cup of coffee and a fruit tart.

Oohlala Bakery CannoliI picked La Madeline’s only because next door is Ooh La La Bakery and I had plans to meet up with Amanda and Brent. Yes .. more dessert was had by someone who isn’t a dessert lover. Don’t judge me. It’s Christmas time ……….. a tiny little cannoli for moi. I got a key lime pie and a cheesecake to go for Tony and Delisha which they got Monday. Amanda and I talked for a good two and a half hours. We had so much to catch up on and once in a while Brent would chime in as he was working on his laptop. He didn’t complain once or hinted it was getting late. He just let me and Amanda have our time and that’s the best thing ever. The several times we’ve all hung out, he’s been very patient and willing to let Amanda hang out with whomever she wanted. I joked that hopefully one day there’ll be a man sitting next to him he could talk to when Amanda and I talked. Hopefully I get to see them again soon. The distance (a whole hour) is killing us. haha

And that’s what you missed on GLEE! haha jk …

2015 Asia Trip | Day 16

November 15, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Hola World! I’ve finally been back since Friday night and have been so lazy. I’ve played with the poopies nonstop, unpacked everything but my clothes, picked up my parents from the airport for their return, and bought a bajillion stickers on Etsy. That’s pretty much it. Eight work days until it’s Thanksgiving break! Eeeps! Which also means Amanda’s and Brent’s wedding day is approaching fast!

On our last day I waited for Sissy and BIL to arrive to PoPo’s from their hotel and for Mum and Kathy to return from getting B’s Hong Kong ID. During that time, I got ready and planned out my meals for the upcoming week. When everyone got back Kathy and I went to 759 to buy some weird snacks to bring back to people as souvenirs and Sissy, BIL, and the parents went to SaSa to buy beauty products. Kathy and I joined her after we were finished and we all went crazy on buying face masks. I wish certain were cheaper here like they are in Hong Kong. Face masks and stickers being two things on my list …

Shanghai PoPo | Hong Kong

We went to Shanghai PoPo for brunch of soup dumplings and noodle soups. Freaking delicious last meal in Hong Kong.

Rachel's Gift

Afterward we went back to PoPo’s to pack what we just bought and Rachel came over with treats from her trip. We said our goodbyes. It gets hard saying bye to PoPo since she’s getting older. :/ Rachel rode with us to the airport where we checked in and did some more shopping in the airport. One of the stores had a everything in the store is $12 HKD type deal. More stickers were bought. Sigh … jealous. After Rachel was with us for a good hour, we said our goodbyes to her and went through customs where Sissy, BIL, and I waited for our flight. A little delayed but wasn’t too big a deal. We were all on the plane waiting for takeoff that everyone fell asleep.

Eva Airlines Meal 1

By the time we were in flight, we were served a meal. Asians always want to make sure you’re full. Bahaha I felt bad for BIL because it was fish and he is not a big fan of fish. But he said this one wasn’t fishy … I guess because he was very hungry. Everyone mostly slept and soon enough we were in Taiwan. I watched Chinese soaps on my phone while we waited.

Sanrio Eva Airlines

Upon boarding our flight to Houston, we saw Sanrio everywhere. On the pillows and on the screens. Even our utensils were Hello Kitty-fied. Sissy was certain we were on the Sanrio aircraft. Liftoff was on time, luckily. I started the Helios movie which is a Hong Kong movie. It was crazy because there was a total of 4 to 5 different languages spoken. 1/3 of the time I had to look at the screen to read what was going on. Nonetheless, a good movie.

Eva Airlines Meal 2

After a good forty minutes we were served our first meal of chicken and macaroni. Wasn’t bad. They even had a Hello Kitty strawberry chocolate on the dessert. I just ate that while Sissy pigged on the cake. After finishing Helios, I went to sleep. BIL and I were so asleep that we missed our snack of sandwiches. After what happened with our first time getting a sandwich on the flight there, we didn’t really care though we were very hungry. Sissy got her veggie sandwich and she said it was nasty so … we didn’t miss much.

Eva Airlines Meal 3

I slept a lot on the flight and when I finally couldn’t sleep anymore, I started the SPL2 movie. Another Hong Kong movie. This one had 3 different languages. Also another great movie. I wish I was able to watch these Hong Kong movies more over here in America. During this time we had our last flight meal of congee with seafood. Also another boo for BIL because he’s not 100% into seafood and definitely dislike mushrooms. We also got some kind of salad but it smelled like crap and tasted even worse. Regardless, we were happy we were almost home. I couldn’t wait to see Rizzo and Rocky and June had bought Wing Stop for us upon coming home. Happy heart, happy tummy.

I can’t wait to go back again. Hopefully to visit either Korea or Japan. And I got promises that Rachel, Vincent, and Kathy will come and visit us. I can’t wait to show them this part of our world. Our turn to take them everywhere.

Promise the 12 days I didn’t put up pictures will be up soon. Until next time,

2015 Asia Trip | Day 15

November 12, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

MX Breakfast | Hong Kong

I finally got a bed last night after sleeping on couches the past week + … it felt amazing … except I am a bit too tall for the bed. My legs were hanging off a bit but I didn’t mind. Went to MX for breakfast and got Ramen with an egg and a coffee tea drink. YUM!

Pizza Hut | Hong Kong

We went to buy stamps for the postcards. Late sending them out since we’ve been so busy sightseeing and such. But it’s done nonetheless. Then headed to Pizza Hut. So different here in Hong Kong than in America meaning so much better and yummier. We ordered so much but it was all so freaking good. No lies.

Juicing | Hong Kong

Vincent took me shopping for a new backpack … what I came to Hong Kong wanting. And I got one!! After many hours of overture for both of us because we don’t like shopping … but we sure did get lots of steps in! He got me a mixed fruit juice drink as well. Gah .. so freaking good!

Tao Square | Hong Kong

After hours and hours of walking, we met up for dinner at Tao Square. Another table filled with food because my parents are crazy. Best last meal in Hong Kong!

Beans Dessert | Hong Kong

Vincent, Sissy, BIL and I went to BEANS. A dessert place. We ordered another table filled … one that had dry ice which was pretty awesome. By the time we finished we felt like throwing up. We walked the long route home in hopes of walking some of it off. Which I highly doubt we did. Sissy and BIL said their goodbyes to Vincent.

I cannot believe our trip is over. OVER! … I am sad but at the same time excited. I have to say goodbye to my family and Hong Kong. And finding out about what I thought I never cared about anymore still breaks my heart. I’m trying to not let it get to me because I have better things to think about. Like getting to see Rizzo! I cannot wait to shove my face into his and hold him!

2015 Asia Trip | Day 14

November 11, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Mellie Dee Sunburn | Phuket, Thailand

Upon getting ready for our last day few hours in Phuket, I realized how sunburned I got. My darkest from the beach ever so I had to document it.

Lobster And Prawn | Phuket, Thailand

We went to Lobster & Prawn for a breakfast buffet which I was iffy about. Afraid I’d have stomach issues from it after. Whomp. The only thing that was good there was the fried rice. Other than that I didn’t get much to eat.

Thailand Airport Cookies Phuket

We relaxed at the abode until 11am when the guy came to check us out and our driver took us to the airport. Another one hour ride. When we got there check in was a breeze. Right when you get in they check your bags. Once we got our boarding passes and checked in our luggage, we sat and waited for a few hours until we boarded. We had 100 bhat left so we spent it on water and cookies and shared. Longest wait ever.

Thai Airlines Meals

We got cashews but I didn’t eat them. I was waiting for my meal of red chicken curry and rice. Not as nice as what we had in Thailand but it was still nice to have as our last meal of curry. I think I’m done with curry for a while though. During the flight I watched a few episodes of 2 Broke Girls and part of Monster University before they cut of MU since we were landing.

Wonton Noodle Soup | Hong Kong

Our parents and Kathy were at the airport waiting for us. We dropped off our stuff at the abode and went to a noodle shop for dinner. PoPo was waiting for us at home for her own home cooked meal and I was craving that more but we went to the noodle shop anyway. We all shared dishes of fried fish skin, brisket, fish balls, beef balls, and veggies. And got a bowl of wonton noodle soup each except Sissy and Vincent. I gave most of my wonton noodle soup to dad since I was looking forward to my other meal with PoPo.

Hong Kong Beer Homemade Dinner with Grandma Hong Kong

Once we finished Vincent and I ran back home while the parents took Sissy and BIL back to their hotel. Beers and a table of yummy goodness greeted us. Veggies, scallops, intestines, squid, fish, and pigeon. So much happiness.

I wish I had more time to spend with the fams and will be super sad again once I leave. Hoping I can come visit in a few years again and for them to come visit us. Fingers crossed.

2015 Asia Trip | Day 13

November 10, 2015 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Already the 13th day of this Asia Trip and I can say that I’m ready to come home. Tonight is our last night in Phuket, flying back to Hong Kong tomorrow afternoon. Then a couple of nights left and it’ll be time to fly back to Rizzo. I am ready! SO ready. Just wish I wasn’t going back to work because … that I am not ready for.

Anyway, woke up pretty late. People here don’t really get up and move until around 10 … 11 am. The earliest any food places is open is at 9am and by then we’d been awake for a few hours. So not use to this life.

Mali Chic Bar & Restaurant | Phuket, Thailand

We walked to Mali Chic Restaurant and Bar for breakfast. Ordered the Iced Thai Tea and Iced Green Tea Latte and a Hot Green Tea Latte as drinks. For the food we got Fried Eggs with toast, ham, and bacon with potatoes. For me, I felt it was too much food. But the others didn’t think so.

Kata Beach Sunglasses | Phuket, Thailand

We walked to the beach where I felt I was dying from fullness. We went in a swam for a couple hours during which I got jabbed in the back by a dude trying to fight the current. Now I have a bruised back. Whomp. And I was burning up since the sun was out so brightly today. Sissy said I look Filipino now.

When we were done we went and got fresh juices and more banana pancakes for lunch. Nothing too crazy since we decided to get a bigger meal at night. Then we walked home where BIL showered while Sissy and I relaxed.

Oriental Massage | Phuket, Thailand

When we decided to head out again, we went to Oriental Massage where Sissy and I got foot massages and BIL got a back and shoulder massage. I wasn’t a fan of mine. She didn’t have enough power and I felt like she was just rubbing my feet instead of massaging it. Oh well …

Penises Souvenirs | Phuket, Thailand

We went to buy some souvenirs and ran into a bunch of penises …

We went back to our place where Sissy and I showered and we relaxed again. This lazy life is obviously too much work for us.

The Old Siam Restaurant | Phuket, Thailand

We went back out for dinner at The Old Siam where I got watermelon juice and Massaman Curry with rice. We ordered a Tom Yum with seafood to share and they had a salad and soup bar. The soup was vegetable soup, much better than the night before’s. But we didn’t touch the salad bar again.

Now we’re back at our place yet again with our bellies filled with Thai food watching a movie that’s showing on the telly. This is the good life …
